Well.. You know I tried to get in it, But my legs were to long.

I wish it had a "round" nose, but this will do. I'm happy with how complete it is. It does'nt have an engine but I got a couple at pops house.

...gotta get those vinyl stickers off there though!

Nice quarter midget Josh. Very authentic with killer tires.
You also got a nice mention in the new Street Rodder.
Want to thank you for you efforts in posting photos on this thread. It takes a lot of time and we really appreciate it. Thanks to Racer 5C also for posting his photos.

I started this thread for Roy (racer5c) I knew/hoped he would take it and run. I knew there were hand full of guys on here, both watchers and posters, that had strong ties to Open Wheel past and TONS of knowlege to share.. Even atracted some new comers..

I thanks you all for contributing.

Please, keep it going whenever you come accross some old pictures or bring home a new find.

    Thanks'

My pops scored some NEW pics this week. A friend of his bought these at a Yard Sale in Indy..

I'm Quite sure these pictures have never been shown anywhere else.

I went through my Books and Identified a Couple.. Feel free to add any info ya might know. I don't recognize the track, IF they are all even at the same track.

The photogragher must have been buddy's with Cliff Griffith, These first Three I figured out, are of him in the "Silnes" car in 1948. Griffith Won 25 features in CSRA and MDTRA. He Competed in the 500 four times with a best finish of 9th. He Died at the age of 79 in Rochester Ind. (Roy... any clue?)

He looks happy here... Might have won a heat, or another feature!

Cliff's Power plant.. Check out the Paint!! NICE!!

I figured out this is the Ralph Helm Hisso around 48' He won the JUNGLE PARK track Championship in 46' and 47'!!
This crash must have not totally destroyed the car, for it was raced well into the 60's!

AND FOR THE ONE I DIDN'T NEED TO RESEARCH!! One of the best of all time..

Ted Horn, Tow rope in hand, preparing for battle. (Man I like this photo!!)

The rest I was unable to find yet. But check out the guy with the white Scallop. He is ON THE GAS!!

Those are awsome pictures Josh. I went to a couple yard sales leaving work Saturday. I work in Speedway right next to the track and always stop at the neighborhood sales. You never know what kind of old souveneirs or other memorobilia you might find that has been stashed in these old speedway homes.

    Corngrower,
I love your Ranger project - it looks similar to the '52 champ car pictured earlier. I would very much like to see it in person sometime as I am building a similar looking champ car (search h.a.m.b. "1930s era champ" for pics) with an inline six. I live just north of Toledo.

Josh, Vintage sprint car season starts this Friday night at Terra Haute, Weather not looking good though. After that, we'll be running at the Indy State Fairgrounds with the Hoosier Hundred..... The new Watson Roadster will be in the pit lane at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Family day and in the big vintage display tent in the museum parking lot on carb day.

June 8/9/10 weekend, our cars(the Carl Schulz "Boyle Valve Miller", the "Fike Plumbing" sprint car and the "Agajanian #98 roadster" will be at the "good guys" show in Indy and also at the "2 hour track time session" at Mt Lawn Speedway on June 9.

Time to get that Shaw Spl. on the track!!!!!!!;)

Hope to see you soon! mac miller

Good! Thanks for the dates.. and heads up. I know dads giong to Indy Goodguys. We'll get it to some other tracks too.. I gotta tell ya though. Parade lapping doesn't interest us. However, Hearing the cars run does. We'll be at a few of them.. Probably get the black flag pointed at us at some point. ..Oh well, won't be the first time:D

Dad set up some track time at a local track that I have ran at before.. We'll get to lean on it there a bit. I'll post pics.

HAMB member weightjacker found something very interesting in a picture I posted back in post 1044. Here is the picture.

Look at the car on the pole!

"It's the GAPCO car from 1964 that Mario ran in USAC. A guy by the name of JimWaltz bought it and just added the cage. Look at it closely and you will see it has the original roll bar still on it. Not only is this the only picture I have seen with it in roll cage trim, but Mario's brother Aldo is driving the car. Check out page 14 of this thread to see how it was restored. Nice bit of history. weightjacker"

    That is cool.

This is a great picture. It looks like they are coming out of 4 taking the green. Look at the jump the guy second row inside has. I bet he beats them all into turn one!

The first 3 pictures of Cliff might have been taken at Greenville, Ohio. The engine in the car was a HAL head on a model "B" block Cliff won the 25 {or more} races in that car in 1948 alone. I am sure Spencer Riggs would know for sure what track the pictures og Cliff were taken. I do not remember where Speedy's car was wrecked but am pretty sure Leon Huble was driving it. Spencer would know for sure. Cliff drove for Speedy several times over the years. I have Cliff's 100 MPH Club jackett that he got in 1952. Josh I would like to meet you sometimes. Iwas at Columbus but was on the wall selling books for Buzz Rose at did not get to see your car. I was going to Terre Haute but it says rain and it is a long tow from KY.

Dad set it up for any Saturday we want to do it.. (the track runs Friday nights) I'll let you all know.. Especially you ROY!! Get your ass down here and make some laps.

By the way Roy, I'm reading the Vogler book again, and kinda for the first time. I read it way back when it first came out but I wasn't into reading all that much then and didn't comprehend what I was reading all that well...
Now I'm older, Quit trying to drink every bottle of Jack in the midwest, and ENJOY THE HELL out of reading... EVEN books I've already read.
Why I'm saying all this is that I just today got to the part in the book that Vogler won his first USAC midget race and Sr. Carruthers is Fired up Yelling at the USAC oficials about "That Damn Cowboy kid Vogler!"
I'm suspecting relations with "that damn kid" are about to change in the upcoming Chapters due to how much I remember the Caruthers name being mentiuoned.

    ...I can't wait!

I wished I would have had my camera with me last weekend when I was at the sprint car hall of fame in Knoxville Ia last weekend. I about crapped myself when I saw two Ardun headed flatheads. I am gonna make sure I take it with me when I go back in August for the nationals.

    Hey Mac Miller...

Whats the story on this car. You explained this car to pops and I, and that the real one is in Austrailia and NOT restored to Fike Plumbing specs.. But whats with the V6? (or is it a V6)

It looks good.. Was it an original car to start with or a total recreation? Nice job either way..
