Gil Morcroft was from Pittsburgh (lawyer?) owned midgets and Indy cars, but for some reason I remember a newspaper story connecting Linder with a 'City of Daytona' car, which I would have to assume was connected with Smokey Yunick, given the black and gold paint scheme. I recall the article saying that a 'committee' had been organized to help raise money to finance the brickyard effort

The C of D was Smokeys first Indy car with Paul Goldsmith driving 1958 and got wrecked in the big 1st lap crash. It was a pretty lo-buck, shoestring operation, so Morcroft may have kicked in some bucks to help out. Kinda the way things were done back then.

I'm sad to hear about Dee Jones. I used to see him and the other USAC sprint car drivers at Reading (PA) in the 60's. Those guys were my heroes, and I still remember getting their autographs in the pits after the races.

A straight 6 cyl Ford truck engine. The car was built and driven by Joe Csiki in the URC. Csiki lost his life in this car.

Ken, Do you have a clearer picture of that sign next to Csiki's Sprinter? Hard for me to read from the picture. Thanks, Denny Z

daveww1, I just noticed, you posted the picture of Csiki's Sprinter so I should ask you if you have a clearer picture or can tell me what is written on the sign next to his Sprinter. Thanks, Denny Z
