I knew we had a good day starting when they asked us to help move the "Leader Card Ford cammer" Sprinter into place.

I smiled when I saw this car come in. Mike Whitney (Richcraft Mike) and I found this midget in a Garage in Louisville 3 or 4 years ago while going to dinner at the Street Rod Nats.. It was $9500... We were just two goofy kids, (we still are):D and we couldn't put enough money together to get it.. After calling everyone we knew we did the best thing for the car. We went back to the show, went to the Speedway Motors booth and gave the address and info to Speedy Bill Smith. I don't know if they went and got the car then and there, or what, But I was SO glad to see it still on the trailer and UNRESTORED!! I still have the pictures somewhere when Mike and I found it. It was COVERED with junk in the old guys garage.

    BEAUTIFUL...

Thanks for the pics CG. Sprint/midget car tails bouncing down the highway is a rare sight anymore. All I see nowdays is big rectangular boxes :(

YEP! No coffins in our group. My dad has said many times... "Inclosed trailers was one of the worst thing to happen to auto racing from a public enjoyment standpoint" When he was a kid he remembers how excited he and his brother would get when they saw a race car on the road.
I agree. When I drive my hot rod, the most yuppie, NON car family can roll by in an SUV and the 7 year old kid in the back seat will be going nuts! No one taught him to like Hot Rods.. HE JUST DOES!! Imagine if that kid saw a new sprint car going down the road on a trailer.. He just MIGHT convince his dad to take him.. ANd he would be a fan for life..
But, instead most race cars go by that kid unoticed..

As for the Leader Card car. I thought the same thing.. Iv'e seen the Leader Card Offy Up right car.. But not the Cammer.

A.J. Watson was there... Maybe? The car was sitting in the tent when we got there. I don't know Who it was that asked us to help move it. Some Goodguys worker.

Wow,I`d love to see that Cammer Sprint in person-did you guys run or was it a static display?

I`d love to see some pics of that car out on the track. I`ll keep my eyes peeled on the net.

Anyone know or wanna know about the engine in the black 99 Howard Linne Midget? Josh IRP (I wont ever call it opr) is a 5/8 mile. Watson is alway swith the 4 cam roadster so I am pretty sure he owns it. I will ask him though if ya want. Guess I shoulda went but I was in the garage all day today, and had a bunch of stuff to do Sat. See ya in Bowling Green!

Here's my two cars that were also at GG on Friday.

When Shrader first saw his orange #55 Higman midget, he thought it was
    still in its shipping crate.

The engine in the black #99 midget is a flat four Sesco.

Dave Thomas owns the #95 four cam Ford Watson roadster.
Not sure who, currently, owns the #2 four cam Ford Watson sprint car, but I'll never forget that car flipping down the front straight at Dayton Speedway with Mike Mosley. Thought Mosley was dead but he came crawling out from under the wreck, unhurt.

    Maybe track time next year.

IRP.. Yeah? I must have missed something. I saw ORP twice above. Did the owners change it? I thought it was strange two guys misspelled it.

Yeah, wish you were there.. Dad and I were all over those two midgets and at one point dad said, "if Roy was here, He could tell us all about these cars":D That black one was killer. So... what was the deal on it and the engine?

I'm a throwback like Roy. I can't call it ORP either, even if O'Reilly is paying for it. Glad I'm not in a position anymore where I would HAVE to.

I'm a throwback like Roy. I can't call it anything but IRP, even if O'Reilly Auto Parts is paying for it. Sort of glad I'm not in a position anymore where I would HAVE to do that.

Shows how much I pay attention... I had no Idea the name changed. It doesn't help that I only run around with "throwbacks":D

    ...It will always be IRP...

'Irs30, 'That's Bud Tinglestad in the Federal Engineering car #10 and like you said, Mario Andretti in his Overseas National Airways car #2 at Nazareth on July 13th, 1968. How about that track at Nazareth? A mile and an eighth, so they ran 89 laps to go 100 miles. I've always wished that Mr. Al Consoli would post more of his priceless collection of photos that he took back in the day. Everything I've ever seen (of his work) was always in the most beautiful and quality.......color! 'Can you imagine if USAC would only mandate that todays Silver Crown cars must run the Grant King/A.J.Watson style body with the full nose and grill? They just might put a few people in the grandstands???.......

Actually I'm not sure if its the same car.. I think the #10 came after it.. I'm still gathering all my info. Iv'e talked to Russ Snowberger's son and he sent me a bunch of differnet pictures of yellow car many different colors.. (including white with a dark scalop down the tank) BUT the car before it, and after it look the same. I'll know more soon.. Could be.. It was crashed a couple times, and differences in the body are expected.

Krooser had a question regarding the pic from the Indy Fairgrounds, originally posted by Richcraft SPL. with a number 1 car and a number 2 car ( see his post there)thats the pic I was reffering to. I maybe wrong on the number one car but I think its AJ pre-Scallops, I just posted those other pics as a reference to the original pic in question...WoW does any of this babble make since????

I believe the pics from lrs30 posted are-AJ Foyt in 1964 or 1965 in car #1 which he carried after dominating in 1964.

The top photo Shows Bud Tinglestad in the Federal Engineering # 10,and Mario Andretti in the Overseas National Airways Spl #2 at Nazareth PA in 1968.

A little O/T but is anyone going to Toledo friday ? Its the annual super and sprint show there.. Im crossing my fingers as there is a chance of rain like 40%.. Ill be there on turn 4 .. I was at a local dirt track saturday and we got rained out and they had a classic race car show going .. I saw one heading down the highway on our way to the track on a trailer and when we got there my kid said it was for sale.. It needed restoration but i sure wish i could have got a better look at the car. It looked like an old sprint with no cage.. Coulda been my new project :)

Non wing heats did not start until after 9:00, hour and a half worth of modified b mains. They ran the non wing sprint feature last, started after 1:00am, way to long!

hey guys can you tell me if there was a sanctioning body (like nascar) for champ/speedway cars back in the 1930's and 1940's and if so what was it called?

I posted some of my dads old pics last weekend here.
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=272447
Rootie replied about the Mutual Racing Assn on that thread and
showed a couple tracks and a link that I hadn't seen before.I'm just
guessing dads pics were prewar but I really don't know. Haven't
nailed anything down yet,but sure would like to figure out where
    that race was.
