Here is one I restored about 6 years ago. It was originally built about 1940. It has 29 Essex rails, 37 Ford tubular axle in front, with A spindles, and spring. The rear end is a 40 Ford, with a fabricated quickchange, on a T spring, and crossmember. All the modifications to the center were brazed, and finished to the point it looked like a casting. The wishbones on both ends are split A. It has an aluminum cowl, belly pan, hood and tail. The nose is made from 18 ga steel. The engine ia an A block, bored .080 over, with an original Miller head. It has an aftermarket, brand unknown, aluminum front cover, and when it came to me had a Wico mag on it. I changed that to a Mallory battery ignition at the request of the owner. The intake is a dual Zepher, with two Winfield SR carbs. When it came to me it had two Stromburg 81 carbs on it. The flywheel was lightened to 18 lbs, and has a 40 Ford clutch and pressure plate.Since the owner drives it at car shows and ralleys, he wanted a self starter, stock A, and a generator, 41 Ford 9N. Originally it had an A trans with just second and high, I installed first and reverse, and a foot clutch pedal at his request. The brakes are a hand operated 37 Chrysler master cylinder, and the stock 40 rear brakes, none on the front. The wheels are Dayton knock off wires, 16 by 4 on the front, 16 by 5 on the back, with reproduction Firestone tires. The steering is a modified mid 30s GM box, set up as cowl steer. Guages are Vintage Stuart Warner. The steering wheel is a vintage Bell 4 spoke. All the hardware and fitting is 40s era, as are all the linkages and rod ends.

The car was originally built in Cleveland Ohio, before the war, otherwise I have no history. It is now in a museum in Germany.

Come on over, I'd love to show you too.

  3. Thanks for the compliment on the #24 car. My brother Gary and I put that back together close to what it was when new. It started life running with CRA in the early 70s, and finished its racing days here in Utah in 1996. June and Bob Lewis were the owners when new. Gary posted some pictures on here when we finished the car in 2008. I will try to post some more pictures.

Is this the car Don Hamilton from San Diego drove? If so it was always super clean, fast, and beautiful. Except the night the in/out knob worked loose and wedged itself under the gas pedal white Don was leading at Cajon Speedway. When backwards real quick in the main.

That car was my favorite one there. PERFECT.

  17. Yes, Don Hamilton did drive this car. I am not sure who told us that story about the shift knob coming off, but yeah this is the car.

Could be a really nice car; just take a torch to that cage, and it would look like an Indy Roadster.

The Cage is Bolt-On.. I like it both ways. ;)

...and I REALLY like the Goodyear "Blue Streaks".. You should run them ALL THE TIME!
