found this autograph from a usac race @ reading but have no idea whose
it is.
please ID for me. (the "dennis" part is me).

I would agree with baldtireman, "To Dennis- Linda Vaughn-Miss Hurst." Did you see her at a USAC race and asks her for her autograph?

The 1926 (Kreis Miller) Indy winner engine eventually (the car sold by Lockhart's widow to Sampson in 1928 for Louie Meyer to drive in 28 and 29) was used by Sampson and Riley Brett in 1930 to build their monster V-16 (two side by side 91s) and to do this Brett had to cast new cylinder blocks with 'downdraft' (a first) inlet ports.
The chassis was sold by Sampson to Louie Meyer in 1930 who installed a 230 for Shorty Cantlon to drive on The West Coast.

Rootie,years ago I got a project from Kansas that came with jars full of nuts bolts and washers etc.. One jar had that very bolt and it was Mil-spec,short fine threads with cotter pin hole. The rod end pictured is mounted in double shear,something you don`t see often on open wheel cars.

 

Whatever works, I suppose. I'll admit I'm probably a little OCD about having actual bolts and nuts holding my suspension on.

 

I have Linda's autograph on a poster on my wall. That's pretty close.

I was just looking at the neat shots of the Indy car and engine that Josh Shaw is working on. What do you do if you need an internal engine parts (or parts), such as a piston,camshaft, or any such items? I can't imagine that those parts are readily available any more. Plus- I suppose you have to fabricate almost all the running gear, chassis parts, etc. What about brake pads and things? Beautiful workmanship!!

 

I learned many years ago that if they could make it then, we can make it now...
It just cost a lot more money.

 

I saw that episode when it was first aired. Trying to remember what town they were in, but I remember the photos clearly. If I remember correctly, there were also some newspaper clippings from Salem Speedway on the wall.

 

I have a Jim Robbins pit shirt from 1956 that my Dad wore when Cliff Griffith finished 10th in the Robbins-Myron Stevens car.

 

Is there anyone out there who has a McGurk tri-drive dry sump system they would like to sell, or parts such as the center drive and water pump. I have front cover and oil pump sections. Thanks Bill

I believe they were. While it was owned by Bardahl, Ferarri factory mechanics worked on it. Nino Farina was the driver.

 

I suspect the Kur-ari (or would that be Ferar-tis ) was a pretty heavy pig. KK chassis were already getting pretty heavy by 1956 standards and the big old 6 banger probably didn't help any.

 

For Black vette 59 and our other 'across the pond' pals:

A 1946 Lagonda effort. Though looking much like a Platypus in reverse, it does appear they figured out a way to "restyle" the back end.

 

It looks really heavy. The dzus tabs even have gussets!

 

Rootie, BZ, do you suppose those gusseted Dzus tabs are off the shelf aircraft supply? I would not know, I'm just curious if Kurtis would go to the trouble of making those Dzus tabs on his own.

 

I'm not sure, but I hope they were a mass produced item, that would be lots of work just for dzus tabs.

 

BZ.....I just wish I had your eye sight.... but don't you just love details like these?

 

My eyes aren't that great. I'm at my shop and design parts on a 32" monitor. The pics are big! I am mad about chassis details. I would much rather see any race car "naked" than with the skin on.

 

Rootie....now this is what I call a Lagonda.......what were they thinking?....might have gone better in reverse....

 

I really don't know either. But if you're set up to make your own Dzus plates it would'nt take much more to make them like that. A small shear-small finger brake- small lever punch and one could make a bucket load in short order.
