Vintage Tach Collectors Show and Tell

That has to be the coolets tach I've seen. I love the labels: Idle, Economy, DANGER!

I just picked up this Dixson Bonneville #87 Tach

 

Hey DVAECEK !! Dude you can't use that tach on you ride !! Holy shit man you'll be in the danger zone all the time LOL. That thing is sweet !!>>>>.

That is a pretty low Danger RPM. Really cool tach though.

 

Quick question I have a Friend That just finished his 1969 Dover White Chevelle and is in need of the Replacement decal that is mounted on Stewart Warner tach sending unit , Can anyone please tell us who is remaking these or where can get one .

Jones Tachometers are still manufactured here in Connecticut. Tom Schulze owner of Schulze Manufacturing bought the company some years ago and moved it to Waterbury. I've got a couple of Jones/Moroso mechanical tachs that he has repaired for me. Faria is also a Connecticut company not far from me in Montville. Jim M.

 

I'm not a collector of tach's, but this vintage Sun is going into the Coupe. I had it rebuilt with newer electronics in the Mag box and new graphics for the blower motor.

 

Here's my Airguide! came brand new in the box! never used. My friends Aunt worked in the factory in Chicago. He was going to throw it away!! Came with the water slide decal too! Then I found a matching compass on E bay.

I picked this one up at a swap meet several years ago for $15 or so. Made in Indiana too. Never seen another one.

I just got a tach very similar to the "Electo-Tac" pictured in post #30
It appears to have either 73 or 79 stamped on the back
I have tried to find some info about this but this thread is as close as I can get -another result said it may have been used for boats
I found it at the local junk yard -not tested yet
Also says "Electro-Voice" -a maker of microphones etc.
Just thought I would ask you guys that seem to know about these oldies

Hello, I found this and I am not sure anything about it. I am hoping it will be useful to me when I get to restoring a car but as of right now I don't even know what tachometers do! Sorry I am female and other than them looking pretty and basic engine repair I know nothing about cars. If anyone knows anything about this please let me know! I looked them up on google exstencivly and cant find any vintage tach's made by martinsdale electric. My husband is thinking we should put it on ebay and just buy a cheaper one when I get my car but if its worth something and good I would rather put it on the car than a cheap one! heres the first picture I'll put the other in next post

 

Sorry for my ramble up there I am just excited about my one dollar yardsale find!
The silver vials in the front left have oil in one and a mini bulb syringe in the other. I am assuming for oiling it. It has multiple (6 plus 3rubber things) attachments I am unsure what any of them do but they look to be in excellent condition.

 

Hi Vintage Tach Guys:

We need some help!

We are busy restoring Chet Herbert's Beast III Streamliner but are having trouble locating the correct tachometer.

We believe it may be an early Jones or Jones Motrola unit with 10,000 revs calibrated as 10, 20, 30, etc. (indicating x hundreds).

We are looking to buy a tach or get info which will help locate one.

Can anyone help me here? This Dixco was running on my '62 VW when it was a 6v car. I have since converted the car to 12v, and wonder what it takes to hook it up now? Thanks,

Updated on 09-07-10. I had the internals changed by Auto Instruments Inc.. fully electronic smooth sweep now.. Not cheap, but done well and it works perfect in my '62 VW

 

my old tach, Never got it to work correctly.
