First off I should open with....Close friend passed away New Years'ish not sure being a holiday weekend, Dude was a 30yr.+ Friend, Robert Beers...(how's that for a last name) Highly accomplished welder, Did stuff for NASA, Gun smithing etc., An All my high end aluminum/stainless welding on a vintage outlaw 356 I built... An Again.... It's Really weird buying close friends equipment..... Sooo... I bought this Roller... If my mind is correct An a few refreshments in , He told me yrs.ago it Kinda worked... Looking at it in my pictures it's Definitely missing something, I'm asking What? In first/second pic is what I'm thinking... Anyone has input on this machine please jump in! I'm thinking I should an hopefully be able to make a hood for my coupe.... Cheer's PS: when I figure it out, Any Hamb brother'n need to use a roller, I'm between Buffalo/Rochester...
Its missing the handle to turn it, looks like it fits to the square shaft 4th picture down. Amazing machine it would handle quite heavy plate. 4ft long?
It looks like it is adjustable as a slip roll too. After a good cleanup it might be a pretty decent unit to have. With the tag on the end and the green paint I wonder if it might have been govt surplus at one time.
Interesting point I never knew about that... I've wanted one for years, I get it here an figured out...Aww hell I'll show how not as well...
It looks like it’s missing a gear to drive the top roller, plus at least one more to mesh all the gears together. The lever on top looks to be the selector to pull the missing gears in and out for some reason, maybe to idle one of the rollers. At it’s present state crank the handle and jack all will be happening. Once working that will be a great tool. Got a better pic of the drive end?
Actually the picture of the no gears end is the drive end, the large square shaft on right is where handle goes, But it looks as if you're right it looks as if that's a "roller" that's not driven, when I get it home I'll get more pictures
