The crowning moment in King’s Top Fuel career was being greeted by NHRA founder Wally Parks in the 1971 Gatornationals winner’s circle.





Chrisman, right, and his brother Lloyd were also very competitive dry lakers racers with their famed Bonneville coupe.



Scott received a performance award from Linda Vaughn at the 1966 Bakersfield March Meet. He is enjoying himself and can't wait to kiss her LOL.

 

Hello,

One day at Lions Dragstrip, there was an announcement during an intermission from the racing. Neil Leffler’s altered coupe (comp coupe) was going to get an national award. This was a first, but the Lions management always had something different going on, from 4 across racing, a LeMans start race with two racers running across the strip and back, relay races, etc. So, this fancy model in a bright red dress walks up and presents the award in front of the tower and spectator bleachers. Drag racing entertainment, 1960…

It must be in a Drag News somewhere…

A friend of mine bought that same thimble drone car at Hershey this year! Did not come with the girl

 

The lady's name is Dorothy Gomes and the car is a customized McCoy hot rod, and they are both great looking!

LeeRoy Yarbrough with Miss Hurst, Pat Flannery Stephens . LeRoy had just set the closed track record of 181.818 mph Feb. 26th, 1965.

the last pic looks like the Bean Bandits Racing Car Club out of San Diego - been around since '49

 

If you mean the crew, it's Red Greth, Don Maybard, and Lyle Fisher, with the Speed Sport roadster. No clue about the girl. I imagine the trophies are for top speed, and top eliminator. They did a lot of that.

Look at how young these guys were - I know Red pretty well and can attest to the fact that these guys knew their stuff - they were world champs (beating the diggers) in 1957

While racing in Super Stock, Butch Leal won class eliminations on several occasions, including at the 1966 Winternationals in Pomona.




George Montgomery was the 1969 U.S. Nationals Super Eliminator champion, driving his Mr. Gasket entry past Ron Ellis in the title round.

 

In 1965, Kalitta won the North Central Division championship. Here, Kalitta, second from left, and fellow class winner Gordon Collett, second from right, were recognized by, from left, NHRA's Bob Daniels, Melody Baker, and Doug Debord.




Kalitta earned the first of his 10 national event victories as a driver at the 1967 Winternationals.

Besides winning the 32-car Burndown, Liberman also set top speed and low e.t. of the meet, 218.9 mph in 6.54 seconds.”

 

Don Prudhomme's Shelby's Super Snake entry was named Best Engineered Car at the 1968 Winternationals, an accomplishment he celebrated with Carol Shelby and Mrs. Winternationals.

I am surprised to see that the engine is not a hemi on the super snake! Must be a chevy big block...yes/no??

 

That is one of the 427 SOHC Fords.

Lol....now that you mention " Shelby" I realize I should have known better than that!!!

 

Pat Foster always had his son, Cole, nearby, especially when it came to winner's circle celebrations like this one with car owner Barry Setzer and the lovely Linda Vaughn.

 

Ohio-based veteran Virgil Cates won in Comp, earning the championship with a final-round victory with his C/Altered Willys over heavily favored Pete Shadinger, who had won both the Springnationals and the U.S. Nationals earlier in the year with his D/Dragster.





Indiana’s Gene Moody collected the Street title with his D/Gas ’55 Chevy by besting Houston-based Johnny Liebham in the final round.
