A buddy of mine called me up this morning and asked me if I would try to sell some vintage wheels for him. Sure, why not. So I drove about 40 minutes to (one of) his warehouse not really expecting to see much more than some old, used Welds or Cragars. Boy was I in for a surprise...

Behind the PLETHORA of various used wheels he has stacked four rows deep and six wheels high, lined and stacked up against the wall, were boxes (yup, I said BOXES) marked Shelby "Cal. 500", Appliance, and the likes. Inside the boxes were brand new, never mounted NOS Appliance Wire Mags, a Tru-Spoke and a bunch Shelby Cal. 500 slotted mags in every size and lug pattern you can imagine. Then to boot, he directs me to TWO sets (one set Ford lug, one set Chevy lug) of Foresight Ventures Drag Mags. They still have the drag tired mounted to them, so I'll be going back for those tomorrow when I'll have time to stop and have them taken off the wheels on the way home. THOSE weren't NOS, but everything else was.

I'll post some pics just as soon as I start unloading the van. I JUST got everything loaded about an hour ago, so I'm going to chill out and relax for a bit. Despite the 30 or so wheels I have in the van right now, I've barely scratched the surface of what he's got. Taking another run tomorrow!

Where the HELL am I gonna keep all these wheels?!?

Doubt keeping them around long will be a problem.
They should fly right out after you post pics and set prices.
    Or....
Take pics at his shop and sell them.Dont have to move them.

Lemme see what I can do here shortly. Like I said, I've been moving wheels (and seat covers) ALL DAY, and at the moment the thought of pulling those wheels out makes my brains hurt. Just let me relax for a minute. I only grabbed NOS stuff today, since I figure I can move it the quickest and get it out of my way, whereas the used vintage wheels might sit in my workshop for a few weeks. Still trying to figure out where I'm going to put thirty-something wheels... sheeeesh.

I'd love to be able to do that, but suppose I sell a set... Then I have to drive down there to pick them up so I can bring them home to get them ready to ship out. My luck, I'd get half way home and another set would sell. Then I'd have to drive down again, pick up the second set... You get the idea. The van doesn't go lightly on gas, so I figured I would pack up as much as I could in one trip and deal with it when I get home.

Some sets might end up sitting in the workshop for a while anyway, NOS or not. For example, one of the NOS sets is a 4-lug (VW I believe). They might end up sitting for a year! Eh, who knows. I just know I picked up some PURDY SHIT this afternoon.

Gotta understand, most of the boxes didn't come home with me for fear of infesting my home with creepy-crawlies of the wood eating sort, the little boy biting sort, and the wife-creeping-out sort. The boxes for the most part were rough, having gotten wet and bug-eaten, etc. over the past 40+ years, but they're all new. I have the 15x7 Wire Mags on my OT '66, but I've been looking for a pair of 15x8.5s for over a year. Guess what that last pic is of... LOL. Best part is I've got pick of a complete set or two for myself. Hmmmmm, shall I go Ansens? Shelbys? Appliance? Maybe Foresight? :D

And so it begins... So far I've managed to get the unboxed wheels into the house so I can begin cataloging them by size and bolt pattern. There are currently 29 NOS wheels sitting in my living room, with about another 12 or so still boxed out in the van. I better get busy, because they better not still be there when "SHE" wakes up in the morning...

OK, here's the deal. IDEALLY, I'd like to sell them as full sets of four, but that ain't gonna happen. I'm thinking I'll pair them up by size and lug pattern, then list them all in the Classified section. Keep in mind, I've probably only got ONE PAIR of each size and lug pattern. For example, I've probably only got a pair of 15x8 5-on-4.5. Next down will be 15x7 5-on-4.5, and so on. Once I've got them inventoried, I'll do that and we can go from there. PMing me now really isn't helping because I really don't know what all I've got here. Right now all I can tell you is that I've got a living room full of shiny, and sooner or later it all needs to go. Hopefully sooner.

No chrome, folks. So far (at least in THIS haul), all machined aluminum. Like I said earlier, Shelbys and Wire Mags mostly. I've been going through them out in the living room and there seems to be a few "odd" wheels. Not odd like, not round, odd like no match. Singles. Right now I'm just trying to pair them up. Damn, I need a beer...

Without overstating the obvious, try not to open any boxes. Finds like yours are scarce now a days!

These have been warehoused, moved around, warehoused again, set on display, warehoused again... I've GOT to open the boxes if I want to be certain of what's IN them. It isn't like any of them are sealed or anything. At least one end is open on every box. As far as salvaging the boxes that these Shelbys came out of, not happenin'. When I say they were in bad shape, I mean they basically fell off the wheel. There is nothing worth salvaging. Even if they added fifty bucks to the value of a set, how much would I spend getting an exterminator out here when my house started becoming infested with silverfish, black widows, and termites? Naw, the boxes are going to stay right where they are. I've never seen a hot rod cruising around with a set of boxed wheels on it anyway. These SOBs are over 40 years old... they need some ROAD time, not more box time.

  26. any wheels with 5on5-1/2 bolt circle?
    thanks.

    Not that I've noticed. It's looking like 5 on 4 1/2, 5 on 4 3/4, 6 lug, and 4 lug.

Looks like I just found ONE pair of 5 on 5.25(?!?) 15x10 Shelby Cal. 500. Any idea what that would fit?

Edit; Just re-measured. I goofed the first time. They're 5 on 5.50. My bad.

If she wakes up to find 41 wheels in the living room, it's gonna take more than just flowers...

Or at least more flowers than it took the time I ran an Edelbrock intake manifold through the dish washer, anyway.
