is that like a B Model? when i was a kid i drove concrete mixers during the summer between school and watnot, the one i drove was an old Mack, twin stick shifter, brakes that were shitty but it was fun!
You got that right! It was put together as a display unit for my T-shirt company. It has a GM 350 and a TH 400, newer rear end. But it still had the 46 suspension and the original seat from 46, so yes, it was a less than a perfect comfortable ride! But I did put 20 K miles on it driving it cross country from Seattle to Oshkosh to the air show, before I had a trailer built for it, that was money well spent!
Who ever owns that very cool CONOCO fuel truck, has a diamond in the rough there. I know the patina thing is a style, but in my opinion, that rig should be totally restored as it was in original condition. That requires some deep pockets to do it correctly, but I think its worth it.
The CONOCO truck had some good company while sitting along the road somewhere between Thornburg, VA and Ruther Glen, VA back at the beginning of March. It was adjacent to an antique shop. At least one of the trucks in that group moved during the week I was working in that area. The large CONOCO letters held up much better than the samller lettering that was painted on the side of the truck. Would the large letters have been porcelain? It would be amazing to see it restored.

There's just something honest and appealing about an old work truck when you consider the places it's been and the labor it has done, the stories it could tell. Am I slipping perilously close to anthropomorphism?
Hey @onthefritz , fantastic collection of fine, real American iron out there in Arizona ! I am so glad I am not investing buckets of money in projects anymore, because there is the never ending temptation to dump more money into old trucks, now at age 68, I am a bit wiser now and know better than to go into the rabbit hole of doing such things ! I wonder if the truck was in the shop for some work that required removal of those items. New paint and lettering on the cab? A little slop splashed up on the fender behind the front wheel, but the cab and windshield look pretty clean considering the snow on the ground. I doesn’t look like the guy in the picture is wearing his winter boots.
