So we've all seen the cars from the '50s-'60s with the embossed vinyl door panels. Sometimes they looked awesome and then sometimes they looked, well... you know. Has anyone had success in reproducing panels of this nature? I know there are companies out there doing it but I am wondering if anyone has any ideas or experience on how to do this yourself.

Most auto manufacturers did it with large presses using something akin to microwave heat stamping. I did a tour of duty at the Ford Utica Trim Plant where several large press lines embossed designs into seating and trim palels.

Other alternatives are s***ching or gluing layers of foam backing together.
