Some wonderfull customs have been created in the 80's and 90's that really belong in this custom car show as well. The first one, by Merle Berg was built out of a four door sedan... into this wonderful flowing lined two door convertible with Carson style top. I mentioned flowing lines... well here is a close up of the side where all the body lines come together. Perfect custom design. The second one is the Dough Thompson built '49 Chevy hard top with heavy chop, Cadillac rear fenders, restyled side panels... again a custom that has all the lines flow so perfectly.
hey i was at that show . it was the 1st and only time i wnt to lead east. the guy let me pull my 58olds up next to it to take a picture.. had a good time
Two Beatnik cars.Brian Everett's hardtopped '50 Merc with Pontiac side trim and awesome candy paintjob.Bad quality pic though.I especially like the Kaiser bumperguard and the way the exhaust pipes are routed through.Cool ! Dennis Mc Phail's '52 Chevy with '53 Chevy grille shell and '55 Olds grille bar and headlights, bumper turned upside down etc.,etc....
Rik,thanks for the pics ! Really good looking car.Like it more without the flames. What do you guys think of this C O O L '64 Galaxie from Japan ? Love that car...beside the 40's and 50's cars I also really dig the early 60's cars. They don't need more than a shaving job and serious lowering. Man,the blue '64 looks fantastic as well...great lines...
Can this thread be preserved for all time? This is good reference. I'll throw this into the mix as a good example of 60s show car style: Alexander Brothers' "Golden Indian"
I really don't get the front on the Alexander Bros' Pontiac...doesn't really improve the look of the car.The interior is nice though, especially the console running from front to back. This '60 Pontiac is also from Japan. The Japanese are building some great rides and I dig their style a lot. And for everybody who's more into sleds based on cars from the 1940's,a hardtopped '40 Merc, also from Japan.Pic is enlarged, hence the bad quality.
JLV's '61 Cadillac is another very subtle and great looking car.The mixture between Custom Cool and a Dellorto-fed, supercharged 526" strocker, transferring the power to the ground via white-band slicks is just one hell of a combination...Gary Howard did build some great "restyled" cars in the last couple of years as Jimmy Vaughan's other cars show as well.Lee Pratt's '40 Ford parked next to the "Ironic Twist". The team of Keith Weesner and Scott Guildner is responsible for Weesner's gorgeous Shoebox Ford which has tons of class and style.I can see a little bit Buster Litton Ford and Jerry Quesnel Mercury in this car and if this pic would be black & white and 50 years old,the car could be another great creation out of Sam Barris' mastermind. Those Merc bumpers look good on Fords too.
I've looked through all the cars here and they are all great but I'm still enamored with the Matranga clone that Hines built... But the Summers Merc-Vert rules all for me... Ray Vega is a close third behind the Matranga clone.
We have hardly scratched the surface! We have yet to see the work of builders like: Dick Dean (who did a lot of work for Barris), We need more of the Alexander Brothers (how about the Adonis) ClarKaiser (The Pharoah's Pacer!) Bill Hines (Any the Bats) Frank DeRosa - (the '40 Merc with Mercedes lights or the King of Mercs) More Ayala stuff! Herb Gary - Any pics of The Oriental? And that's just off the top of my head. Dave
Here are a few other from the ClarKaiser shop that need to be at the show. Another picture of the 52 Ford Alan Reason 50 Ford coupe And here are two from the Ayala shop. For sure some increadible custom shops, that created som of the most beautifull custom cars. John Geraghty 40 Ford convertible And Wally Welch '49 mercury, here in it original version with Gold paint and 5 DeSoto grille teeth and here in its second version (completely restored now) with deep purple paint and 7 grille teeth
