    Hmmmmm....
90 posts, telling us what is wrong and who we should blame. Even a few feeling sorry for those that lost their jobs.

So everyone says they won't be buying any more vice grips, what are you going to do when you need a pair and the off shore ones are the only choice? My guess? You will buy something made offshore.

Is there another option? Well, sort of...The building still exists, the employees still know how to make vice grips. Change the name, modify the design (one could probably go back close to the original design), start producing your own. Start small with the minumim needed to produce a product and get it to market. Without an established retirement program, no big ceo wages, one could keep the cost down. Made in the USA could work in your favor.

That is what its going to take, a few tough people that are willing to do the sacrifice to get a new streemlined company up and running. The future of the USA will not be in large companies, but smaller effecent companies capable of making changes as required and that have a desire to produce a good product. So Who's stepping up? Bullshit, I don't agree. The Chinese tools are just plain shit & every gearhead I know won't buy those products.

BTW- I hope that every person that shops at Mao-mart loses their job too. Buying their cheap imported crap is what is killing our countries.

  6. There's a few things that Nebraskans like me are proud of, and Vice-Grips were up there along with my alma mater (University of Nebraska), Johnny Carson and maybe Speedway Motors. Being a man who came up as a union apprentice carpenter in the in the late '70s-'80s (especially when framing with metal studs) their small welders' clamps were a necessity. I HATE using Asian-made crap - no durability, flimsy, ad infinitum.

Check out this article from the Omaha "Weird Gerald" for a local take on the subject

I'm sure if you go to www.journalstar.com (the Lincoln, NE newspaper) you'll find a story there as well since DeWitt is about 40 miles from there. Pay attention to the quote/comment about "cheaper raw materials." Gee, I wonder why? Even after pay cuts by a non-union (?) workforce averaging less than $14/hour, they couldn't make it work?
