I'm right there with you Axel, unless you've put on a show that big you have no idea the logistics involved.

We're only in our fifth year of Midnight Mass but also in our fifth location. Every year gets bigger and every year comes with a different set of problems to figure out. When it comes down to it all you can do is please the majority of the people and let those who are going to bitch to go ahead.

We all (everybody who puts on a show) would love to please everybody and get 100% praise from all who attend, but that will never happen. There's no such thing as a perfect show to everybody.

My hats off to you Axel because I have a fairly good idea what it's like to put on a big show and it eats up a lot of my time. Even when I'm not working on the show, it's always there in the back of my mind.

Bottom line is we put on these shows for your enjoyment and hope that you go to them for that same reason.

Well I had a good time dammit! Better than last year by far. Axle I tried to find you, but to no avail. The guys from your club said you were running around like a crazy man with things to do. I did notice that some of the security guards were a bit confused, or maybe it was me. We left the show around 5pm Sat to go back ro our room so I could grab my camera and take some more pictures. But when I asked a security guard that was turning people away about re-entry, he said there was none, even with a wristband. I thought it closed to the public around then. W/e, didnt miss much, not complaining, just confused. Thanks again Axle and see you next year.

Cool, i traded the galaxie for a shoebox then sold the shoebox back to the guy, some kid bought the galaxie and blew up the tranny and rear end. He did something on his own, we drove that thing past san fran and back without any probs.

    congrats on the award!!!

All i can say is that I had a blast at vegas. The car show was pleasant and and so were the people. The quality of cars was better but i wasn't expecting alot of painted or finished cars due to the economy and gas prices and plating prices are off the hook. All in all it was a good time and I met alot of nice people.

Ok, I've read the whole post and I guess it's not real clear in my head....is the actual car show one day, Saturday, and you need a $80.00 wrist band to participate with your car?

  14. The only way to get a car in the show was if you were attending the weekender.

It was $77.50 for the whole weekend...50 bands, 20 dj,s and about 100 vendors.

Too many people forget this is a MUSIC weekend with a 1 day car show on the Saturday....NOT a car show with music.

Walk in's to the Car Show on Saturday were free.

i think you had a anti somthing?????..............it was ok then, same for burnouts on the lawn...........and oil leaking junk hm how things change............

  17. Denise,

The Car Show is open to public on Saturday from like 8AM-5PM. Other than that it is wristband only access which includes Wednesday afternoon, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday after the show. Also, a wristband is required to enter a car in the show. I've been Ten years in a row now and it is a change for the good.

Some of the best times had are Thursday and Friday nights hanging out in the lot and watching folks roll in for the weekend. Next year it's supossed to be open all night to entrants. I look forward to it.

    Johnnie.

    Boxrod,
I have no ties to anyone here, but why would have that attitude. If iwasa free to everyone who would pay for the show.
Your probably the guy that goes to the neighborhood BBQ, doesnt bring a thing and then bitched about kind of beered served and the hamburgers were to small.
Stay home if you cant accept it!
    my 2 cents

i've never been to VLV, and probably will never get the opportunity to go.
but it sounds like it was a great show, and lots of fun.
i don't understand why so many people get so mad over the piddley things.
i have been involved with planning 3 day car shows, and it takes up to a year to get things in order and to make sure you have everything covered. it's a ton of leg work but it's all worth the effort when the show comes off without a hitch. the other thing is the money. why are so many people pissed off when it comes to what money goes into whose pockets ? what they don't understand is how much money actually gets paid out to put the shows on. sometimes, the show promoter / club will break even after charging admission to the show. after paying all the bills, insurance, security, fires/safety, rents, fees, permits, etc, etc, alot of money goes out. so really, who cares if the promoter / club makes a profit in the end ? the profit (if any) will go towards funding the following years show.
i can gurantee that all the people who complaine about where the money is going would not complain if they were the ones putting on the show. it always seems like everyone wants a peice of the pie, without putting any effort into it. i've delt with this sort of thing before, and it really pisses me off. some people just don't understand all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on prior to putting on a show. it's almost like they think someone decides to do a show, and a week later it happens...not so.
until you've gone through the paces of actually putting on a big show (500 cars or more) you will never understand the way it works. the thing is, people do not have to put on these shows, and the majortiy of the ones that do it, do not do it with the intention of making money...they do it for the love of the cars, and for the people who are involved in this hobby. put a non car person in this position with the sole intention of making a profit, and the show will fail...i've seen it happen.

It seems there alway has to be somebody to bitch about something.Feel fortunate to even attend if not go somewhere else like to a local drive in show full of not very cool tin,or maybe some ,ratty cars if that your cup of tea.I personally give a big thumbs up to the shifters and everybody involved in putting on such a cool event. If you don't like it stay home.

  24. Beetlejuice,

You should hook up with the Road Rockets out of Indy. I hear they are driving out in force next year. Tom & Naomi, and Yancy and Brittney were a blast to hang out with this year and should be great fun on the road.

Thanks for all the hard work Axle. We all had a great time!

  27. You know there is a private message function here, you should try it sometime. No one needs to hear about your emotional baggage you hold against Axle or The Shifters.

  28. I had a real good time. I only went to the car show part. Not slagging Tom Ingram, but the music just didn't call to me this year. And I didn't bring a car either. Makes me sound like a moocher, huh?

I sure find it amusing that some people are peaved at the Shifters for growing up. Once the hair goes grey or begins to leave the scene, the pimples clear up, we just have to go along. Even Dick Clark had to grow up.

Axle always makes us geezers feel welcome. Yup, even back in the Anti-Blessing days. So, I will continue to support Axle's shows.

Thanks, Shifters. See ya at the next one.
