first off, ryan, sorry for bringing this subject up again but i truly feel it is necessary.

i ranted about this subject after our last VLV and it never ceases to amaze me how many people continue to think the gold coast ,tom ingram, myself or the rest of the club have some sort of get rich thing going on. for the guy who posted something last week, gracie,or anyone else who might feel like this should all be free and/or "i'm not giving my money to so and so". have any of you ever organized a major event in your life?
yes, its true. there will now be a charge to attend the car show IF you dont purchase viva las vegas tickets. if you attend the ENTIRE VIVA LAS VEGAS festival and get a wristband the car show is free. everyone must still register your car no matter what.

*for those who think everything should be free let me state this:

BILLET PROOF charges $20.00/$25.00 per car and $5.00 to walk in.

WEST COAST KUSTOMS (PASO ROBLES EVENT) charges $35.00 per car.

HUNNERT CAR PILE UP charges $20.00 per car and $5.00 to walk in.

PRIMER NATIONALS charges $20.00/$25.00 per car and $8.00 to walk in.

i havent attended the ROUND UP yet but i bet there is a fee there too.

so i ask everyone, why should VIVA LAS VEGAS be so different?

proper security, fence and ****ter rentals, employee's,promoting, merchandise, and trophy expenses,my time & expenses,DJ & sound equipment rentals, etc, etc, etc. it ads up very quickly and the money has to come from somewhere.

if you're still saying "yeah...but"... just stay the f#@*! home!

*a couple more things that you can also read on the www.vivalasvegas.net
    site.

VLV will now allow a limited amount of pre 1963 stock motorcycles (TO PARK IN A DESIGNATED AREA). no choppers,WCC,OCC of any kind will be allowed.you must submit a picture for approval.

we welcome AND ENCOURAGE finished painted hot rods & customs as long as they are nostalgic and pre 1963. and of course primer is more than welcome.

due to the knuckleheads who sat on the top level parking ledge and threw bottles out on the street last year ,the car show will now be on ground level and absolutely no gl*** will be allowed.

anyone seen doing donuts and/or burn outs will be removed from the entire property. (if you must do that do it out on the street)

NO SAVING PARKING SPACES AND PLEASE DO NOT RUN OVER CONES AS THAT AREA IS FOR OUR VENDORS.

again, check out the vlv website and click on the car show section. once there scroll to the bottom and click on "more info"
thanks, i think most of you understand and get it.

    can i get an amen?

I've never been to VLV - I'd love to go - I was hoping the next one - and I think I'll keep hoping the next one.

As for charging money - I say go for it. Raise money for something - pay for costs, then rest to a charity or something. As long as a profitable business isn't made out of it - it'll probably still be viewed as OK :)

Could also raise money to build a car to auction off for charity at the next VLV - the Draggins car club here in Saskatoon used to do that - and used to make a ****load of moola for charity that way.

I've never been to VLV, but I'm all for whatever you gotta do to keep the event going. Hope one day I can make it! Oh , I caught the re-run of Automaniacs last nite. I really enjoyed the segment on you guys (Shifters). Way to go man.

When an event gets up in the numbers and you start to have more things goin on and such then its only natural to have to charge an entry fee to cover costs. People should realize that I would think. I know that sometimes runs and events get pricy to go to with every one tryin to out do the other event. The small ones should be able to be the cheaper ones out there but when things are as big and as well known as VLV is, then having an entry fee and such, shouldnt even be a worry to people as you have to look at the big picture as to what you are getting to participate in and see.

Ok then, how about a compromise. If the show has to go that way then why not let EVERYONE who registers for the car show get in on Thursday. If it's not about the dough then why are the guys who come out just for the car show being made to wait until Saturday morning to line up and get in?

    Ok here goes...

BECAUSE VIVA LAS VEGAS HOSTS THE CAR SHOW NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!!

There are plenty of events for guys who just want to hang out in parking lots. This is a rock-a-billy festiville that also has a car show.

If you pay for the VLV show YOU SHOULD GET PREFERRED PARKING.

Why would you want to hang out in the parking lot from thursday to saturday anyway? This isn't the line for Phanotom Menace...

Axle, I have organized some events in my day and its not the easiet thing to do at all, by any means.... I have attended viva in the past and it is a blast. However those shows are that you mentioned are just that car shows viva to me is more of a festival... therfore I dont think charging to walk in the car show is a good thing to do.. just my opinion of course..viva is I thought supposed to be about music most, car show is a bonus for me..

Actually, we hang out at the long bar in between hanging out at our cars. If I remember correctly, this event started out as a car show with rockabilly music, at least that's how we always figured it.

It is unfortunate the changes that have had to take place.

That said, to Alex and the Shifters, you are making the right move with this. If you didn't take the precautionary steps there would no longer be VLV. I am ecstatic that you guys are forward lookers enough to have seen what lies ahead if changes weren't made.

And to the haters that think it should be free. NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE! How much is your time worth? Nothing, ok, then you watch the ****ters at VLV and make sure no one drowns.

Props to the Shifters for taking steps to preserve what they have carved out of air.

Fine, charge the money, just let the car show guys who either don't have the money to pay or don't wanna' go upstairs get into the car show early too. Is it really that big of a deal?????? If it is, then I say ********, it IS all about making money!

How does not letting you in early have anything to do with any more money? You're going to pay the $20 either way right?

The car show is on SATURDAY, what other show lets you show up a day or two before the show to PARK?

But I AGREE with you about the charge being about the MONEY...

Because you want to get something for nothing...

You want to got to VLV and hang out with the people who paid for the show, pick up on the girls etc, without HAVING TO PAY FOR IT. You expect the people who put on the festiville to take the heat for your actions at the "Long Bar" without paying them.

    And fyi...

The VLV 'Car Show' started as a 'Preferred Parking for Old Cars' kinda deal for VLV Rockabilly Festiville paid guests. The car show grew from there...

So you see, It was never intended to be a stand alone event...

You were always supposed to have paid for the Festiville to go to the car show. This just closes a loop-hole...

I can see this thread going downhill REAL fast.

Charge the money, pay the bills, do what you HAVE to do..........get yourself a Non Profit Id number and give the REST of the money to charity. I won't complain then. HOWEVER, paying yourself for your time doesn't really cut it for me........I NEVER get paid for MY time when I do shows AND the Highway 99 show here I help with sure doesn't pay me for it either. But it is a good time and helping a charity matters more to me then lining my own pockets.

Right on, hell most folks expect to pay for a show if you have been doing it for free all this time then good on ya, with any luck a lazy $20 might keep some of the losers at home and save the h***le from ruining a great event.

    Right on Kilroy.

In Japan, the average cost to enter a vehicle into a major show is equivalent to $500. Spectator admission is $30-50. In other words, shut up and pay up or do your own free show.

Oh, yeah...why do people still insist on replying with the "entire" post copied to theirs? I read it the first time, why do I want to read it in its entirety all over again above your one-paragraph reply? Same with pics. Highlight and delete folks...highlight and delete.

I hav'nt got to attend VLV for a few years but I see nothing wrong with having to pay to get in. It's a kick*** show and with the size of it I'm sure its a pain to organize.

I really don't see why everyone whines about it when there gonna spend 10 times that on smokes and beer anyway.

Axle, do what you gotta do.

If you have it people will come no matter what the changes are.

I hope I can make it out there again for the show sometime.I really miss going.

RF, with all do respect this isnt Japan this is the USA,viva makes their money of charging for the music portion of it and if they need more security and restrictions in the parking lot fine then Charge for the people to bring there cars! charge to get into the Music part of it Fine! but charge the spectators to look at the cars... NO WAY!!! Shows such as Primer nationals that Charge to get in is because they rent the facilty and the main thing is a car show... Paso doesnt charge spectators... maybe thats next.

I have never attended VLV, however I do know a thing or two about putting on "festival" car shows and paying for trophies, plaques, equipment rentals, etc. etc. I volunteered to run a local festival show here a few years back with the help of our now extinct car club, and while I was looking into the pros and cons of the way the show had been run the previous years found that the people running it were keeping the entry fee money for themselves! We posted signs at registration that stated exactly what the registration fees were paying for and the rest went to the local animal shelter the first year, and our local police dept. the next year. The only people that ever complained were the local Chamber of Commerce b/c when the numbers grew our second year, they wanted a cut of the entry fees. I politely told them to get f-----, and find someone else to run it, so now it's back to the way it was before.

No, I'd bet money they never do. It's in a public area with no way of controlling a crowd. A race track, a fair ground, even the top of the parking structure can be controlled. The incoming folk have to p*** thru certain gateways...........IF Viva is moved to ground level, it will have to be contained to charge the incoming crowds. That requires barriers of some sort, which requires money. Gonna have to charge to pay for it. It's all a matter of having to pay for what others have done. It's not fair but somethings in life are not and if we enjoy Viva then we'll pay.

That's right, we drive many miles to see friends from all over usually only seen in Vegas once a year, we hang out and check out each others cars and any changes that have been done, we toast to each other and congratulate on the newest girlfriends, wives or kids. And no, we don't bother going up to an overcrowded, sweaty, scenester concert. Look Axle, if this place is making you adjust your show so much than why not grab another venue? I don't mean to get so pissed off, but it does not make any sense to me. You guys started the anti-blessing, remember?? Why are you tucking you balls on this one?

It's sad when we as a traditional rodding community were given something as great as the VLV car show and because of a handfull of ***holes things have had to change. I know it isn't cheap to ochestrate an event like Viva. What's twenty bucks anyways? Most, if not all of us will blow at least ten times that in the casino. Would I like to get my car in free at Viva, of course. Do I mind paying to get into the show? No. We're lucky to have events such as Viva, Mooneyes X-Mas, Billetproof, Primer Nats, Hunnert, etc. How about this guys, we don't pony up some cash and we don't have a car show? If Axle or the Shifters make some money off the show, good, they put on one hell of a show. And I'll bet money that what they make will most likely go back and get put back into the show for next year. We can all pay the entrance fee or not have the VLV car show; it's up to us. I'm banking that the car show will be around for a while as long as more people don't act like idiots and get the whole thing shut down.
