:D If you don't want to spend money at a great show then stay home, there will always be someone to take your place. You pay for what you get and if you pay nothing expect nothing! "Face it money talks and bullshit walks".

Over the years there have been PLENTY of negative things said about VLV. Search this forum and you may be surprised! Don't let the negativity discourage you, if you come with a good attitude you'll likely go away with one... and vice versa. Look forward to seeing all of you there.

I should be easy to find, I'll be the only sober one there.

  3. The brother and I talking about flying out to see the other brother. That would make me the other sober guy. :D

I have read a lot about it and seen pics and videos. Looks like a good time to me and I am really looking forward to it.

  5. Gas was almost $5 a gallon last year, and it was jammed...now its UNDER $2.00, I think it'll be fine...

  6. Sooner is better than later, by Saturday the lot will be pretty full. Hit the website for details on lodging and such. The Orleans is already booked, but last I heard the Gold Coast still had discount rooms, (going fast).

  7. LETS CLEAR THIS UP ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Yes the car show used to be free, for both participants and spectators. Some of my fondest memories are from 5 to 10 years ago, hanging out on top of the parking garage at 3AM. It was a surreal atmosphere that has never been equalled, pure Hot Rod heaven. Then, as some of you will recall, the car show took an ugly turn.

Lots of trouble started happening and the situation deteriorated at an exponential rate. To the point I told my good friend Alex that I probably would not bring a car back that I cared about. I was not alone in that sentiment.

The root of the problem was by and large youngsters, that 16-20 crowd that could not get in to the Weekender. They could however party like hell in the parking lot. They damaged the property, lots of cars, and people. And, the reality of that demographic was that they were a terrible risk to the Gold Coast, and the VLV promoters liability, and they weren't even paying customers....ie....not an asset of any kind. Something had to change.

THE SOLUTION, make the Shifters Car Show part of VLV proper, that instantly made it a 21 and over event for participants, and required a wristband. Most of us had wristbands anyways, so it made no difference other than the quality of the event was restored almost immediately. Yes the guys who just came for the Car Show now have to shell out some bucks, and can't hang out all night anymore. Well, too bad, so sad.....it's the concession we make to keep an exceptional event alive and well. And nobody seems to miss the punks, or the trouble that came with them.

BOTTOM LINE. Both Alex Idzardi and Tom Ingram stepped up, put differences aside, and came together to save something worth saving. This was not a financial scheme to line their pockets, it was a plan for survival. These guys spend an enormous amount of time, energy, and money to make this thing happen and they are not getting rich doing it. For one, I am thankful that they make this effort. This will be 11 years in a row for me, (missed the first one), and as long as the fun holds out, I'll keep attending.

ALL YOU NEWBIES TO VLV FEAR NOT, just come to have fun and you will. Rods, Sleds, great music, Titties and Alcohol, how can you lose. If all else fails, just come and find me, we'll think of something..........

    Johnnie.

    I'm with you alex,
$80 some frog skins to hang out at one of the best car show around and have a great time isn't that bad. Maybe this year I will make it to the Casino and check out the rest of the show. I been trying for the last eight years or so , but I just can seem to,get out of the parking lot... Having too much fun... Keep up the good work

Thanks for sharing the history. I wasn't there that night and I'm not sad that I missed it. Hopefully those of us who appreciate the work put into the show and have stood up for it have encouraged all VLV virgins to join us!

And for the very few of us who aren't slamming back PBR we can always enjoy all of the funny drunk people!

  14. I was there and that was the last time for me. I had my at the time new Chevy truck down below the show. yep you guessed it broken windshiled. and a few beer bottles off the hood and roof. Gold Coast said they werent responsible, so My insurance and pocket book took the brunt of it

LuckysGal and I will be there. I bought our plane tickets a month before I found out a couple of guys from my car club are driving there from Michigan, then on to the Lonestar Roundup. This will be our third VLV, can't wait.

    WOW !.....That's a clever pearl of wisdom.........
I'd say.....If you can't afford to go, I understand.....I've been broke in the past myself.....but, for those who are on the edge of going, you WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME IF YOU GO !.....Just think.....When you're on your death bed, are you going to think "I wish I could remember what I spent that money on that I saved from NOT going to Viva" ?????

I agree 100 percent. Just think of it this way.......If you take your wife out to dinner and a movie you are droppin at least $100 so why does this seem so bad ? $89 for a weekend of cars, girls, bands, great people, etc.........Sounds fair to me. Hell, gotta support shows like this I say.
    See you there.

i have had fun at viva. it is the biggest rockabilly fashion show on earth. love seeing guys with huge pomps and creepers getting out of honda civics. always a good laugh. there are some good cars as well. it was never the money that bugged me, it was the righteous attitude that a lot of the people had. people who only know how to properly cuff their pants but know nothing about hot rods. i'll stick to midnight mass, s.f., and antioch. i am sure i wont be missed.

The only attitude I picked up on was a lot of real happy people havin' fun......I got nothing but a positive vibe from every aspect of VIVA......I just don't get why people slag this great event......great cars, music, and a ton of people with a common interest, and it's in VEGAS !............WTF ????

Not caring on this issue one way or another, because I live 3 hours away and if I go I go, if I don't I don't (money won't be a deciding factor), but

    he does have a point.

  25. I think people without a car should pay. There is not that many cars vs spectators at that show... it would not hurt to at least cut the car owners some slack. Just remember, you cannot have a car show if there are no cars, thus why should the car owners pay to enter while somebody else profits from it? DO THE BANDS AT VIVA PAY TO PLAY???????

  26. I understand.... it's a lot of work to promote the show. I am aware there are expenses incurred when paying for a venue, time, permits, insurance, rental cops and bands etc. Is it going to bankrupt the show to cut the car owners some slack? AXLE, I thought you were a car guy??? You of all people should understand the amount of time and money that goes into a rod. Your attitude seems to favor the bands. Are you like a large majority inside the Gold Coast who buy an old car as an accessory to their pomp'd hair and cuffed jeans? If that's the case, you should start calling your car "the blue purse puppy".

i dont know how it will be this year but every other year at the gold coast i was able to walk around with a 18 pack under my arm so paying for the show just makes up for the money i would have spent for beer at any other show. see you there hammered

And yet another issue rears its ugly head. Wasn't open drinking in excess the issue a few years back?

  30. I usually pour my beer into a fountain drink cup at events where they frown on bringing your own beer...only problem is you have to drink through a "sissy stick"!!!
