Any one remember the Volksrods of the early 70's? If memory serves me correct, Andy Brizo (Roy"s Dad) and Pete of Pete & Jakes drove one from California to either the first or second Strret Rod nats. Anybody got one or know of one. It was a T that was VW powered. :D

  4. I was at the second NSRA and Andy Brizio had a wild painted T Panel Truck with artwork by Art Himsl. There were several Vrod roadsters there that had drove from CA. One of them was Tom Medley, father of Stroker McGurk of cartoon fame. His was the gray primer one. The little bronze one was really cool.

Here are some little photos that were from little photos from back in the day. Sorry about the size. First one is the Panel of Andy Brizio.

There is, or was, one running around Pasadena TX. Used to see it every now and then but not for some years now.

Yes. The Kent Fuller ones had a custom t-bucket body and were VW powered.

one of those rolled into the little swap meet they have at the vintage Ford place in Campbell.... so there is at least one still running around the Bay Area.

    Awesome pics Richie!

They went right into my collection!:p As a long term Veedub nut, and new to the old car scene, I love the crossover connection it brings for me:D

Isn't that John Dixons rod? The guy who owns Taj Mah Graj.

  20. Glad you like 'em!
The guy who owns it had another, a track nosed T, back in the late 70's/early 80's that had some magazine coverage.
I distinctly remember him telling he fell asleep at the wheel of it somewhere in Ohio & was awoken by the sudden stop created when it ran in to a toll booth.

Volksrods were FUN little cars built back in the days when guys were still able to have innocent FUN. A time before there were any hot rod tradition bigots getting their chones in a wad about the "right way" to have FUN.

    Very cool Richie!

Somewhere on my computer I have the whole build article on the car, I'll have to try and find the darn thing...

  23. Vdubbs are probably the most hotrodded car in history. Every configuration has almost been done. I've always liked the novelty and fun one can have with it. Cheap fun.

Some pretty cool stuff! I was raised around VW's and still have my 56. Did they use a bug frontend or a T straight axle?

Left to right...Steve Archer, Andy Brizio, Kent Fuller, Doug Martin, all captains of industry. For a real treat , go to the Air-Cooled social group.

  27. You know Neonloverrob, I haven't a clue.
I gotta get over to his shop soon.
    I'll be sure to ask.
Now that I think about it, there used to be a guy in Brockton, MA that put small block Chevy motors in the front of VW Bugs & piloted the cars from the back seat.
I gotta dig up more info on that one though.

ok, first off, i don't post very much here as i am not a street car guy anymore. i do come here because there is a lot of information here. i am a drag racer but, i used to build street cars. in the mid '70's i was getting out of building vw trikes after 10 years or so. i saw tom medley's vw-t and thought, "that would be easy to build". i had several vw parts left and the frame would be just like a v8 t has. well this is what i built. it weighed 1275 was spooky fast on the street, like an oversized go kart. not very stable on the fwy though. every bump or truck passing would send it into the next lane. the last pic is something i have been day dreaming about for awhile. enclosed and great gas mileage. just might have to build that.
