They are a real swèet box. One of the best upgrades I did on my 51. Manual boxes pretty easy to find but the power boxes have been scarce here for years. Can't really answer your question but the guy to ask is fatmanfabrication.com

There are newer variants of that box and can be found in the Cadillac Cateras and on your side of the pond it's called something else believe it's a Volvo not sure on model though.

That box is also found on Isuzu Rodeos and whatever the Honda version is called.

If one chooses to use one be sure and get the knuckle joint in the column shaft. It's not available by itself from the oems.

Have no idea how different the 52-4 suspensions are from the shoeboxes my guess is they are probably similar, and if so wouldn't hesitate to do the swap.

1949-53 Ford and 1952-53 Merc's are the same front end parts as far as upper and lower control arms and upright are concerned.

On the shoeboxes their pitman arm with a little m***aging will bolt up to the Volvo box. So maybe it's the same for the later fords.

On the other side of the water, the Caddy Catera is a Vauxhall Omega.

This is what I love about the HAMB, all the information that gets shared freely. Makes sense that it's a Vauxhall that being part of the GM family.

I wish there was a junkyard swap for the '59 Ford, probably same as the '57-58. Choices are the Borgeson (~ $600) PS conversion box or R & P kits (~$1300 +). The OG Ford boxes have a long drop down to the pitman arm.

57 & 58 boxes are different and the 58 being a better box is a common and desired swap into a 57. Not 100% sure but believe the 59 box is also different. If there is a junk yard swap the guy that will know is Pist-n-Broke here on the hamb. He knows these 3 year cars as well as anyone. And is always willing to share knowledge. Been a great help to me over the years. PM him feel free to let him know who put him on his trail. And whatever answer he gives you please come back and share with the rest of us.

Pist-N-Broke is a good guy and has a couple of great '59 Fords, I'll shoot him a PM about the steering box, thanks.
