Art & Inspiration Von Dutch for Sale: The Brucker Auction.

When I was in high school (late '50's) some of the more affluent guys got their cars "Von Dutched". The story was that Dutch would down a few beers before starting, and the more beer he drank, the better the striping got. I was never privileged to attend one of these sessions so am just repeating folk lore.

 

We have a couple local stripers and years ago when one striped my Jeep, he would not start until he had a beer and smoked a joint.

 

Before the Bruker collection was auctioned ,a lot of goods were put on ebay for sale such as Steve Mcqueens disassembled Hudson convertible.I bought a four carb flathead intake from the collection that had a small amount of damage that was easily welded up,just to have something associated with those guys at the time i thought was important,will never know its history or who ported the heck out of it,or if it was raced but i enjoy owning it Johnny

 

Phil Sauer the former owner of my 51 Merc . Told me he spent the day with Von Dutch when he striped the dash. He told me the same thing. He would drink a little stripe a little. Here's a pic of the dash from the Car Craft Photo shoot . Unfortunately the glove box lid went missing.
