Any nice set of rare flathead heads has got to worth at least a few hundred more than a new set of common heads go for. Von Esser is rare. I'd think if they are clean on the underside they should be worth over $700 at the minimum.
about a year ago ther was a nice pair on the local craigslist for $800.00. they were on for many months before somebody bought them. of course, after they sold i regretted not buying them.
Are these heads aluminum or cast iron? I have seen both versions of the 49- 53 later style Von Esser heads.
They're aluminium and he wanted 1200 Someone got in there and bought them So I don't have to worry now
Von Esser? Not the guy with the eyeball, no... Lately, there were gross numbers of 'vons'. Couldn't help noticing, as Grandpa sold the 'Von' in his surname before migrating here. (from Germany; 'von Deutsch' would be the translation) Most recent 'vons' were assumed, as not many were of German origin. (Von Martinez, Von Jones, Von Francisco...) Not trying to step on someone's feeble grasp for fame... Just Von & Games.
My family also ditched the Von in are name when coming to America from Germany. The rest of the spelling got a little fudged later on still pre-WWII. If I put the Von back in there I'll be worth more? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Von Esser ran a speed shop on Chicago's north side for years, I imagine it was one of, if not the earliest, in the city. A nephew of his has his Offy powered Midget, beautifully restored and his grandson has (had?) the Von T. Built in the early '60's, 6-71 blown small block, 4 Speed, radical car for the era it was built in.
my mom was a Cram... formally Von-Cram... Von-Cram family had a very good tennis player back in Germany... he played in the '36 Olympics... family has a pic of him shaking hands with hitler... hitler asked him to use his tennis fame to promote the Nazis... he refused... 4 years later he was sent to the eastern front... not seen again...
My mother's maiden name was Van Arnam. Van is the Dutch equivalent of Von. In both countries it can signify nobility or the place where the name originated. I kind of like the nobility angle. Unfortunately, I didn't understand the significance until it was to late to get any leverage out of it. As in "I'm really a Dutch prince but you can call me Steve and by the way, what is your sign?"
