Can anyone tell me what kind of Vortec motor I just put into my 65 Chevy C10... The only numbers I can find are on the block by the passenger side water pump..it reads V1212TPA..any help would be great can't find info any where!!!
Look on the back of the engine, on top of the bellhousing area, behind the heads/intake. There should be a block casting number and casting date code. Of course it would have been a LOT easier to see them before you put the engine in. There don't seem to be many online resources for later model truck engine suffix codes. That would be the TPA part of that number stamp. The 1212 part means the engine was assembled December 12th, but we have no idea what year. That's why the casting date codes would be so helpful. You can also pull a valve cover and see the head casting number and date code if you want, that would help And also post a picture, we can tell you what year range it's from most likely. For example, we know that' it's from 1970 or newr because it has a 3 letter suffix, if it has center bolt valve covers then it's probably from 87 or newer, if it has vertical intake bolts it's from 96(?) or newer.
