VW gassers, not the V8 car, but the real ones (aircooled)

X2 - The G***er threads on Cal-look.no will keep you busy for hours. Not only are they focused on pre 80 drag cars, but they (UK, Sweden, Japan,....) also currently own most of the cars.
Also there is AirCooled Cool HAMB socializing group headed up by HAMB member Marnat3

  3. Exactly and if there is any place in the world to find old race photos and stories it is right here on the HAMB.

There was a bug that raced in the NW when I was first starting out. Actually a couple that I recall but one was hemi powered. Anyway I never got paired up with the air cooled one ( different cl***es) but it sounded like a swarm of bees when he turned it loose. I always loved to watch him carry the fronts past the 60 ft line then settle it down and fly towards the lights.

    Frenchy,
The race shop car in this popst is that a Ghia or a Fiatt?

if we can talk about rodded anglias, prefects and the like, why not vws? there were and are some quick air-cooled veedubs out there. if it was raced in the 60's, it deserves to be represented here.

Beetles had a 96'' wheelbase, just over 1500lbs, and they would hook up!

These are seriously short wheelbase cars. 80" IIRC.

A buddy had a 67 street driven bug in the late 90's, it ran a very high 10 on two occasions, but mostly low 11's. Gene Berg has been gone a few years now but was and is an icon in the VW industry, he made tons of performance parts.

If i remember right, the fastest 1/4 mile p*** with a four cylinder was based on the VW engine design.

Lets not forget Dean Lowry, and the purple...Deano dyno-soar...bug that ripped up the 1/4 mile.

I have been in the VW hobby since the late 60's and I am still in the VW scene and have build a few VW over the years a few people here know the kind of work I do. I have build my 1932 Hot Rod Lincoln V12 just to be different but the VW is the main hobby for me no offence. Here are a few pictures of my cars not to get away from this original post. I also worked for Steve Tims back in the early 70's.

    Thanks

    You already did...

Please keep this Thread on track with period pics of old racecars, instead of modern ones, Cal Look bugs, and restored ones.

Here is shot of a collection I have set up in my living room as a museum with VW memorabilia, Pictures on the wall of race cars and my 2332 VW engine set up on the engine stand 12.1 compression with 48 IDA Webbers. I also have my 52 set up in the living room as well. Sorry for all of this boring stuff to some of you.

    Thanks

Heres mine. Its now in Norway. The VW ruled the H , J AND I, gas cl***es back in the day. Lots of hp, cheap to build, easy to work on, sounds like a Hot Rod to me
