Does anyone happen to know what diameter wheel center would be needed to make a really narrow front wheel using a VW wheel rim? The thought would be to end up with a 3 1/2"-ish width wheel with a 5 X 4 3/4" bolt pattern. Lynn
These guys have blank 15x3's with a 13.23" ID and 15x4's with a 12.49" ID. AG wheels, no "safety beads". I'm using 15x4's & 15x5's to build some rims myself. https://www.heywheel.com/page11.html
Been a long time since I made narrow rally’s. This much I do remember. Not all VW hoops have the same ID dimensions. So pick your hoops carefully.
The VW ones I used for mock up on the Studebaker were 4" wide and fit later Ford (outside bump) and Dodge if I remember correctly. The Stude is 5 on 4.5" BP.
Thanks for the posts. I see the thread has been moved. I guess because I mentioned VW wheel rims? Lynn
Where is the Miller tire you're referring to? A quick search brought up several. If they have a website it would be great if you could post a link to it. Thank you. Lynn
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/wheel-shells-outer-hoop.1279668/ An older thread, not a lot of info, but I'll bet there are more. Searching for "hoops" gets a lot of different stuff, but there are others asking the same thing. At least it's another term to look for.
The Miller Tire brings it up first for me. It’s m.e. Miller tire listing for farm and lawn tractors plus vintage implement tires….
I did the opposite, I used the VW center and welded on an Audi hoop to give me a wider rear wheel for a Manx clone I was building at one time. That being said, hit a wreckers (if you have any around) and take a look at SpaceSaver spare wheels, they'll give you a skinny/narrow hoop that may work better with your GM (or whatever) centers.
Be careful though, some of the newer cars the space saver spares have aluminum rims. You can’t even replace the tires on those. They bend too easy.
