I remember that thing from when it first hit the magazines--it hurt my eyes then, too.
But it would indeed be a fun ride--I wouldn't take it to Paso, I'd park it at the National Nomad Owners club annual and watch the havoc. I'd take body guards, though, and have an escape plan...

  7. i saw that thing when i was a kid at the world of wheels, along with the pool table car, the disco van ,and the that car that looks like a big nazi helmet.the paint, interior, and wheels are different now. i remember it as the "bunny coach"

  8. It was at the Goodguys swap meet this weekend in the car corral for sale. Having a two-owner 30,000-mile perfect '55 Nomad in my family for the last 26 years made me kinda curious to look this monstrosity over. I was trying to have a quiet moment and the dude comes over and starts giving me the sales pitch, and I HATE pushy salesman. I wanted to tell him what I really thought and how he should at least take the piece of yard art off the trailer if he wants to make the "best" presentation, but I just walked on feeling all "yucky" inside. That thing is capital G R O S S!!!

i checked oot a 55 nomad for sale today for 3500.00

yeah, its been sitting in a field SO long cuz the owner THOUGHT he was gonna get rich some time, looks like its been sitting 30 years,,,you can "push" up on the roof and move the roof with one hand, see through the quarter panels, see the ground through the floor, the rear frame "hump" section is rusted in two,,,the sad thing is ,i know of two other nomads within 5 miles just like this,,,and im sure alot of you do too....id much rather cruise around in that 70's phsycodelic pimp ride listining too the Tubes than think about all the nomads that have gone to waste rotting away cuz some greedy bastard wouldnt sell it to a hopefull car nut before it was too late...

I too had the misfortune of seeing this thing at the Pleasanton Goodguys show... two days later I still have this unexplained feeling of total nausea. All it's missing is a set of 20" rims that still spin when the car is at a dead stop and maybe a big ass aluminum wing for added "downforce".

When I win the lottery, I'll buy it just for the grim satisfaction of personally shoving it into the crusher!

what's really sad is that this...vehicle... was once a very attractive custom.

there's a pic of it previous to the folding, spindling and mutilating it now sports in one of the Andy Southard books, and it was a looker.

I'm all about some kustom shit but why the fuck do that to 55 chevy. There are plenty of 70's model wagons that could be turn'd into just as sweet of a kustom. This my friends borders on sacralidge [IMG]

I remember that car in the day, too. At the time, it was pretty cool. Of course fads, and times change, and now it looks a bit rediculous, but it still has a history!
Hey, Butt Reynolds, I am looking for a Nomad like that! Would love to find one rotted into the ground, but still has a good roof/glass area. Always wanted to build an "Oldsmobile Nomad" like the old Tom Taylor drawing! You sure that guy won't part with it cheap??????/

    I have two words

    Corvette Summer

  20. I love this car! I agree that it's hideous but there's a place for monstrosities like this in this world..

Think of all the swinging superchick movies you could make with it! You could fill it full of farah faucett-esque big tittied blondes in superhero jumpsuits and they could jump out of it and do kung-fu on bad guys! Or better still it could be the official vehicle of the porn-star justice league!

  21. could you imagine the bunny coach towing the corvette summer car?

That thing F'in' rocks. I'd paint it up like surf rod ambulance and carry my chopper on the roof. [IMG]

  24. I would drive that car every day every where. I love it. I love it. I love it!

  25. What a waste of stude quarter panels!
I have something in common with the present owner...I'd sell it too.
