A club I belong to had their annual picnic at the WAAAM (Western Antique Airplane and Automobile Museum) today. It's located in Hood River, Or. and I had never been there. Over 100 WII or earlier planes on display, plus over 130 cars mixed into the same areas! The cars are mostly teens, 20's, and 30's, with a handful of cars from 40's thru 60's, but very few. First time I've been there, and I was awestruck by the quality and number of displays! They have some engines, exploded view parts, and a small number of tractors also. The volunteers are rightfully proud of what they've done there, and it shows in their response and assistance, plus the condition of the displays. Not a low tire, or speck of dust anywhere. I drove the scenic twisty gorge highway with my Austin gasser both ways, and it handled the 10-20 mph curves nicely. For a car that I built to go straight, I was pretty pleased that it easily took corners at much higher than posted speeds. If you're in the area, or passing through Hood River, Or. don't miss the chance to see this museum. It's well worth the time! http://www.waaamuseum.org/
Just spent three great hours at WAAM on our trip from Wisconsin out west to visit our daughter in Portland Oregon. It was our second visit since we stumbled into it on our trip two years ago. Great staff, with all being very friendly and helpful with questions or getting "close" to stuff to get just the right photo. I especially like the pairing of cars.....motorcycles ......airplanes in many cases sharing the same engines such as the Henderson motorcycle in-line 4cyl.......Model A and the Ford flathead V/8. LOVED the sprint car with the Ranger aircraft engine.
I'm planning on going back in September and bringing my wife along. The volunteer I spoke with said they're having their anniversary show in Sept. and are having a fly-in event to coincide. Should be a interesting event to see along with the museum.
I'll have to check if they allow pictures. I didn't take a camera, but I'll give them a call before I go back, and get pics. Most the cars were stock, or stock restorations, which aren't really what we usually put up on this site, but there were a few old race cars from the 20's that were pretty cool!
