Does anyone have any manuals or specs for r building these? I've been into a couple 6-71's but these are way different
They were quite common in the UK, and often fitted to the Rover V8 (Buick 215) engine. From my recollection they did not take to high revs very well, so were not really a 'performance' blower without serious money being spent on them. I had one on a Rover motor back in the 80's with quad sidedraft SU carbs on it which ran OK, but I never really leaned on it.
3 cylinder horizontally opposed 2 stroke diesel. There should be a few still laying around down here as they were quite common in the day, you couldn't mistake that unique engine 'Knock' that gave rise to the name 'Knocker'. Like most things English, a lot of components, body and mechancial were sourced by those in the know and exported back to the 'mother country' to assist in restorations over there.

Has a familiar look to me. It's been awhile since you posted your pic, so I was curious if you finished the Holden engine and got it running? Any progress to report?
Here's a Wade RO 34 from a Commer TS3 fitted to my brother's Morris Minor. The motor is a 3.5 litre/215 Cu inch Rover V8. The blower's "snout" is fabricated from steel sheet. The manifold is an Offenhauser manifold which I milled the top off to be flat, then a 3/8" ali plate was TIG welded on -this work went out as I didn't have an AC TIG set at the time. As much metal as possible was milled from the blower mounting flanges as we really wanted to ensure that the Holley 600 DP would fit underneath without needing to cut the bonnet/hood. The blower provides 8 lb guage boost and runs at 1 1/4" engine speed, which does tend to cause a lot of wear on the gears (which are a cast Iron Bronze combo) As someone noted earlier in the thread, the RO 34 blowers ran at a very low speed on the source TS3 motor, so aren't really suitable for long life at high revs in our experience. I have the "new" 4 bolt main Rover motor for this car under build up in my workshop at the moment. When it's finished It will be getting an Eaton blower from a Jaguar V8 instead of the Wade.
Like your setup STUEEE (Stewart to your parents????) These blowers have an upper rpm range of 5000rpm. maybe that's why you are going thru gears. Also how are you lubricating them? Interested in knowing if you have sealed self-lubricating bearings.
Yes, understand that the wear is due to RPM and the gear setup, but machining a set of steel gears isn't a trivial task; The blower doesn't have sealed bearings, lubrication is ep90 gear oil. When this conversion was done 20 or so years ago, there wasn't a really any scrapyard alternative of a better blower in the UK. The Eaton blowers from modern Mercedes and Jaguars don't look as "period" as the Wade, but they are relatively cheap now, and they don't require any challenging work to install.
Thanks for the info @Stueeee, I'm planning on running one on an 8ba flatty, it'll be stage 2 of the car once it's on the road, just keen to scrape up all the info I can. The wade is appealing as it is the right era & looks to be available.
I have cast loonymum front cover ,finned rear cover and inlet plate for the Ro34 models . Also a nice Flathead blower manifold to suit . contact me if I can help you .
I make Flathead V8 blower intakes. One is to suit a 471 blower and the other is a multi purpose one where you bolt an adaptor plate to the top and then you can bolt most types of blowers to it. Made from a high quality alloy, heat treated and cnc machined. 100 % Australian made
I’ve just acquired a four banger with a Wade RO34 blower fitted. For the banger motor it’s the right cfm and rpm. At the moment it’s 20% over driven but I’m changing it to 1:1 so it’ll Rev out about the same time as the banger. The banger also has a scat crank, rods and forged pistons, along with an over head conversion.
Old thread I know but we are trying to pull the gears off the front of a small older Wade blower. It is not going well. Anyone have any tech on disassembling one of there units???
Hey guys, I know this is an old thread. Anybody able to advise the max engine size one of these blowers could effectively service? I have a chance to purchase one and considering whether it might be suitable on a Chev 292 6 cylinder.... or perhaps would it be too small? Only looking to make mild boost (around 5psi). I know these blowers are only supposed to be good for about 5k supercharger RPM, which would probably suit me pretty well anyhow if I was to spin it 1:1 with the engine revs. Also, does anybody know what are the main factors which limit it to 5k rpm? (i.e Bearings? Gear material? deflection in rotors?). Thanks for any input or advice.. I really love the look of these blowers..
Hi Jimblor. Don't know them that well myself, but the family run 2 old race cars (both under my fathers care) that use them. One is a 2.4L six and has an RO20 running at 1.8 engine speed and the the engine redlines at about 6k, so that's close to 10k blower speed. Having said that, this is the same blower we are currently rebuilding due to failure. The other is 2.25L F-Head 4 and runs the larger RO34 at about 1.2 engine speed to a redline of about 5500. Hope this helps.
Since we seem to have defibbed this thread, does anyone know of someone making spare rotors for the Wade blowers? I need those to suit the RO20.
