Glad to see the Chevy bumpers fit the Mopars pretty good.
My '53 Chrysler bumpers are huge and heavy with 4 bumper guards.
    And they're a bit crusty.

    Cool wagon, Brian.
    The roadster, too.
Always figured a guy needs a big kustom/cruiser AND a hot rod.

Are you enjoying the '34? I am anxious to start buying bits for the '29 body I bought to wrap that DeSoto hemi up in. ;)

Considering the trips are limited around town still I am having a blast in it! I have to admit I made a few errors in the build, "art over function" kind of stuff. Nothing like having a thirsty blown flathead and a 5 gallon gas tank. You know, that ole chestnut. But plans are being made to eliminate the peril from our day.

I saw the other thread. I'll be coming along for the ride.

The guy that bought mine seems to be having a good time with it. He's building a really beautiful top, something that had I bothered to get around to doing, it might still be in my garage. Oh well.

  8. Well......his books are pretty damn cool...and what a snazzy dresser

Rear bumper on the car. Lots more to do but it’s too hot already, time to go in and tackle the laundry room remodel. It’s air conditioned in the house...

Oh, I did decide in ‘49 Chevy taillights, with LED’s, and a friend suggested making the back lights brake lights, so I also have a pair of ‘47 Ford round parking lamps with dual element sockets. I have red LEDs I’ll put in them, brakes will be the brightest, backups will be the other side. Or I may make them brake/taillights, I’ll decide when I hook ‘em up. They’ll certainly look better than these! IMG_1140.JPG

    "...almost fits."
    Thanks for sharing the particulars.
    I figured it wasn't a simple bolt-on.

    "What were they thinking?"
As you certainly know by now, the big old Mopars were VERY well-built cars.
I guess they figured the bumpers needed to at least have a fighting chance of stopping all that mass.
I was considering replacing mine with something just a little lighter...
    6"dia X .250wall round tubing...

    ...polished stainless. :D

I got the rear bumper mounts re-done, much better, and drove it outside so I could stand back and take a look. It’ll do. Now I gotta get the right side taillight on and get rid of those awful backup lights. Maybe next week make the cruise night at Gilmore Car Museum.

The frame hitch receiver is together. Now to box in the gussets at the sides and receiver tube extension. We be towing. 116891254_10224276799130269_6087120885206696983_n.jpg

LOL, it must have had one of those at one time, there were marks on the original bumper, and the big dent just right of the plate below the tailgate tells me somebody backed into a trailer tongue!

    Brian,

The bumper hitch/bumper mount frame weldment looks sufficiently robust and beastly to protect you and the other occupants in the car as well as the car itself - maybe even your neighbor's car and the kid down the street too!:) Is some of the design robustness a result of the previous accident where your tin woody was rear ended?

More CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) work, half the new gravel pan. The original didn’t come close.

The bumper being that far out reminds me of the mid 70’s cars that came with extra seating areas......on the bumpers!:D

I had debated pulling the bumper in, ended up having it there because it made the hitch addition work easily with it there. It's the same distance from the body at the ends as the original, even a little closer, although the original bumper tucks in at the center a couple of inches. I can live with it.

I got the gravel pan roughed in. I’ll roll a bead in it before the two halves are fully welded, then finish it up.

My wife helped me set the hood back on the car. That DeSoto emblem has got to go, but it's great seeing the car together again. 117314355_10224304560424284_7710779202191225175_n.jpg 117385355_10224304559744267_211678899886341356_n.jpg

Look ma! No dent! We like the ‘47 Ford park lamps, they’re going to be taillights, LED bulbs. Backup lights will be an LED strip above the rear window on the stainless channel that’ll also be brake lights and turn signals.
