Well, I took a little break after the pileup working on the Sea Hag because I got busy at work.

It has been rainy and shitty here lately so there has been nothing to do but work on my pile out in the garage.

I got a sheetmetal brake for Christmas last year but never made a stand for it so job number 1 was to do that so I could bend a 4 foot wide piece of 18 guage steel.

I wanted the bed floor to be one piece so I used the brake to bend 1 inch flanges on the edges, and I used my shrinker and stretcher to make the sheet follow the contour of the frame.

I have the lines marked out where I am going to roll beads in the floor if I could ever get anyone to come over and help me hold the sheet and do it.

I carefully measured, and then guessed how high I wanted my bed front to be and cut out a piece of steel for it. I rolled a nifty recessed panel in it with my handy new bead roller. I then bent the 1 inch flanges on all 4 corners. It is going to get supported by some 1 inch 16 guage square tubing.

Here is where the hard part and the head scratching begins.

I took some 59 Lincoln quarters from a car that uncle scoob gave yngrodder and I. (Thanks Scoob! I still have those parts if you want to try and fix your lincoln by the way)

I drilled out all of the spot welds and then cut them down to where I though they would look good as bed sides.

I am going to make some real bed sides and then top them off with these panels.

I guess I will post some pics on Monday after I figure the rest of this mess out. ha ha ha

Aaron.......with all of those new toys, why not shape the bed as a bath rub, seal it up, fill with water and get some babes in it for a photo shoot :)

Looks great! I love the quarters on that one.

Where'd you snag the bead roller and brake press from? Did you also get a braking shear?

The bead roller came from www.metalace.com he is a friend of mine. The dies are the same as the pexto ones. It is stout and you aren't gonna bust it like the Harbor Freight one.

The Brake came from Harbor Freight. It is a 48 inch pan and Box brake. It has worked well so far.

Curator, there are always tools thrown about my garage....I am not exactly the tidiest person in the world. Ha Ha Ha

    lookin' good Billie Ray.

Are you going to leave this one open or make a trunk lid/tonneau cover for it?

(Needs stake pockets and some nice wood bedside thingys? like a farm truck from Uranus...)

I also have that 48" Pan and box brake, mounted it on two rollway bottoms,
keep all my metal working stuff in it. And it is on lockable wheels.

  18. What still amazes me is the shit you can see. I mean way far ahead to know what kind of stuff you want to save.
I bet that is a foggy, hair band invested gray area:D Looks awesome but I am real curious what it looks like with the bed after your post on the "top chop or not to chop".

BooZoo, yep that is the one.

I got my help over Friday night and it cost me about a case of beer, but we got the beads rolled in the floor. I also cut out a few support bars that go under the floor out of 1x1 16 guage square tubing and welded them to the bottom of the bed floor. I bolted the floor back down tight and cut a side piece for mock up purposes. Those little cleco's really help for this sort of thing. Sometimes it is the tools that make the job possible.

I then grabbed the Lincoln quarter and threw it up there and marked and cut where the bed side needed cut to allow for the taper where the decklid used to be.

With both sides cut and clecoes together, I marked on the panels where all the edges were so I could take the panels off and roll a nifty design in them with my handy dandy bead roller.

I rolled my bed side design in the panels, which again cost me some beer for my helper Russ and his boy Jeremy, Jeremy did all the helping while Russ stood and watched and drank the beer. Ha Ha Ha

I drilled a shitload of holes in the side of the panel and then I spot welded it to the bed floor. I wanted to give it a "factory" type look.

I dollied out the edge of the Lincoln quarter to match the top of the bed side.

I clecoed it back on and welded it in place filling all of the spot weld holes that were in it from when I removed the trunk lid lip.

Now the thing looks almost "factory". Ha Ha Ha

Tonight I will work on the tail light and tailgate area.

Very slick, it's going to be sweet! Might want to consider putting some rubber plugs in the front of the bed, to drain out any rain.
