Being that Mr. Cash helped with the making of that film for 10 years, I'm going to say taht they did an exclent job. Other than the Waylon scene, everyone pretty much looked the part. What people must realize is that that was when most of them were really young, a time when most folks now dont think of them. We're used to seeing them older.

The only other thing that got me was that Johnny was a big man well over six feet tall with broad shoulders and Joaquin Phoenix is neither. But either way, it was a great show. I was a little puzzled by Johnny home town that they mentioned. Kingsland here just south of Pine Bluff is who lays claim as the birth place of Johnny Cash, not the one mentioned............

  2. Birthplace and hometown aren't the same things. He was born in Kingsland, but his hometown was Dyess, which was actually a post-depression Works Progress Administration "colony".

All-in-all, I think it was a pretty good film.

I figured that out after I posted that. I did a little resarch on the www.....

  4. I finally watched it last night, and it was very good! Two thumbs up, and that is coming from a person that hates most moves that have came out lately. Well worth buying and watching again.:D

I looked for the American 5's but missed them, I'll have to watch it again now...:)

I was a little disappointed that it ended when he and June finally married, it left the movie open ended. It was an OK movie, but certainly not Oscar material. Now I can see why all the hype over the "Gay Cowboys", I would agree that the Duke would roll over in his grave, but some years, there are minimal candidates! I think their presentation of Johnny and June was exceptional, but the flick in general lacked substance...................just my opinion. I can say that I did enjoy watching it, but it left me with an unfinished feeling................................
