Was told it was a 4dr. A little Gomer Pyle rendition. Surprise Surprise Surprise. Flathead Caddy motor was rebuilt and stored. Has a 460 in it. Supposedly. It came home. Has sheet metal floors but the body is fairly solid.
'46 or '47? There was a maroon '46 coupe/fastback that I used to see around the Mann Music Center of Philly then I was growing up- absolutely gorgeous car- congrats!!!
That is an awesome body style. I don’t think I have ever seen a caddy one. I’m sure it is pretty rare. Would make an awesome car to have. CN
"A 460 in it"..Ford engine?..I would have guessed a likely swap would have been the 472 Cadillac engine. Always liked those old Cadillacs..great candidate for a custom.
Love them sedanettes! Looks to be intermediate 'B' body shared with Oldsmobile & Buick. It would be nice to see the flathead reinstalled, does it have the original transmission with it? I believe that the 3-piece rear glass can be replaced with a single piece from an Olds or Buick? 'A' body - Chevy Fleetline Aero, Pontiac Torpedo and Olds 66; 'B' body - Pontiac Streamliner, Olds 76 & 78; Buick Special and Cadillac 61; and 'C' body - Olds Custom Cruiser (98), Buick Super and Roadmaster, Cadillac 62. Look for frame number either on the top LH driver's side near the bar brackets as well on the top of the LHR rear frame rail near gas tank or on top of the right (passenger side) frame rail between the motor mount and the firewall, usually in the vicinity of the starter and battery box. It may be a feint stamping and covered by paint and/or scale. Also check the data plate on firewall. The data plate is attached to left side of cowl as you look at car (Passenger side). There could be another tag that identifies the serial number.
Thanks for the info on the Caddy engine. I see your into Oldsmobile's. I have a '47 Oldsmobile Woodie wagon For Sale. It needs to be restored but fairly complete.
The Cad 472/500 is an inch and a half wider at 28-1/2 than the FE is at 27. I've got a 500 in my 71 GMC 3/4 ton and it sounds easy until you actually do it. I'd say as far as the 460 goes it all depends on what shape it is in and even more on how good the installation was. Put some valve covers on it that don't say Ford, stick a Caddy 2 scoop air cleaner on it and half the people won't know the difference. If it needs a bunch and or looks like a cobbled up mess then pull it out. Or just get it running, drive it until you wear the 460 out and then worry about it.
High School buddy of mine has a coupe to and is keeping the flathead because it runs so good. Cool find there !
