  1. Say what you want, medical science has come a long way. But genetics can rear its head too, and that's just the luck of the draw. I'm not known for my good luck....

Yea, timely for me. I turned 50 this year and really need to start taking better care of myself. I didn’t figure I would make 25 and lived like it. Since I have more than doubled my life expectancy already, seems God must have a reason for me to be here. So, I have recently decided to get more serious about staying in shape. Back when I painted cars, it was no problem to stay in shape. However, the desk job seems to be killing me at least when it comes to lack of physical movement. Maybe we could start a HAMB fitness accountability group? :p

But sometimes there is nothing you can do about it!
I turn 75 end of the month and "C' hit me late last year.
It's a rare type and slow growing with no cure, so who knows?
The worst thing about it is the constant fatigue.
I do as much as I can every day and try not to worry about it but......it's there!
Tinkering and driving my old cars, as often as possible, still puts a big smile on my face! :)

I'm 75 and do need to drop some weight.
Between Christmas and about the 7th of February I dropped 22 lbs unintentionally when I was staying with my 95 year old mom after an alcohol induced fall on Christmas day caused her some injuries that took that period of time to heal. No alcohol because I was keeping her off the wine, no snacks simply because I didn't buy chips or treats at the store when I went. Plus no midnight sandwiches. That was with absolutely no exercise except walking the 150 ft to the mailbox twice a day, once to get the paper and once to get the mail.
That just proves that if a guy wants to loose some weight all he really needs to do is break a few bad habits. Mostly get out of the habit of snacking and eating that late night sandwich or desert. That and cut back on the alcohol intake as mom also dropped weight and since she isn't drinking a bottle of wine a day now she has continued to loose weight and feels a lot better.
I lost my best friend and the guy who was more big brother than buddy Ron Moore a few years ago to heart trouble. My other close bud has been in a nursing home with dementia for several years now.

The take care of yourself works in other ways too. don't jump down off stuff that you should climb down off when you are young and take care of the knees. I'm paying for jumping out of helicopters when I was 20 and jumping off sailboats onto the dock and falling down wet stairs in my 50's now. That and too many years on concrete floors with the wrong shoes.

one thing people don't do is get a check up because they "feel fine" even though they are 75 lbs overweight. I'm 62, had I not got a check up in my early 50's I would have diabetes by now. went from 245 down to 190. there is no trick to it, you know where all those extra pounds came from. just stop eating that stuff and eat less of everything else. you should feel hungry every now and then.

once you go to the doctor listen to them. had a fat buddy with high blood pressure who "felt fine" until the heart attack and his death at 54.:(

Genetics can play a large part, but eating right, some exercise, and lay off the cigarettes and alcohol and can't hurt. My house is about a hundred yards uphill from my shop, and on a normal day, I walk a couple miles, mostly in the shop. I had an old friend, Indy Car builder Rolla Vollstedt, did a routine of stretching every morning, and he made it to 99, building engines and cars past 90. So, that's what I do. Sure, I started slowing down, about a year ago, but I will be 74 soon, and still looking one project ahead at all times.

Here is a $4.00 read that you may want to add to your car books and journals..

Let it go for a while as I agree... but, this is a hot rod and custom forum, not a fitness forum... or Facebook.
