Currently running 2.75 gears in our '27 Roadster Land Speed car with a Ford 9". Looking to go to 2.49 or 2.50. Had another 1k in rpm in her but was pushing boost to the limit (15lbs). Going to change pulley on blower as well to slow it down a little. Set a new record in D/BGRMR at 173.429 (181 top speed) but pretty sure we can get to the 190's with taller gears. Any help finding is appreciated. Also have a "Wanted" ad in classifieds. THANKS!

If you don't find what you need on Landracing.com, let me know. I think that I have a rear with 2.50:1 gears in storage.

I also happen to be moving things out of storage, to my new shop, all this week. I will see if it is still in there, and still good.

Do you run a standard rear end or do you run limited slip. I would think limited slip would be more weight and right were you don't want it..

It has a standard rear end. Direct to a turbo 400 no drive shaft.

Look under 1977 to 1979 ford thunderbirds and cougars with the 351 engine.

Let me check, I have about ten sets of take out nine inch gears stored. Might take me a day to get to them.

That's fine Bones, much appreciated, car's not going anywhere at the moment! Don't have any snow tires for her. :)

  14. Going from memory, the tallest Ford gears are 2.50 and 2.47. As said look under late 70's cars when emissions were strangling and before OD trans came out.

Sorry, Wally , I went and checked the seven sets of 9 inch gears I have , started at 5.14, closest I could get to your needs was 3:60.

Back on the late 70s up to the mid 80s Chrysler put out a lot of 2:45 geared 8 1/4 rear axles, mostly under the mid sized cars and the light duty 1/2 ton pickups. They are not as stout as a 9", but for what your using it for, it would work great. An 8 1/4 Chrysler rear axle doesn't have a lot of power robbing drag in them. One time I bought a 78 Dodge Charger with a 400 motor and was very disappointed to find a 2:45 geared 8 1/4 under it!

I just sent a complete 8 1/4 with 2:45 gear axle assembly to the scrap yard a couple weeks ago that was in a truck project I'd bought. Gene

If I recall I picked up a 2.5:1 9" years ago from a Galaxie that was being parted out. OEM gears if memory serves me correctly. I swapped out the gears.

Let's rebuild the whole rear end for him. Or just help him find a "punkin" change.

All Bonneville roadsters are different. Ours took me on a sight-seeing tour during a once-ever change to a positraction.

I’m looking, have a friend that has six nine inch rear ends, he’s looking at the ratios, now. Heck, those 2.47 used to be all over the place! Lol

Lot's of information Boy's I appreciate it. Got a couple of leads I'm pursuing but keep the info flowing. Switching from current 2.75 to 2.47 at 6000 rpm, with everything else the same, is going to take us just under 200mph! 6300rpm and we are at 204mph! Pushed 6200rpm this year and the engine was REALLY happy, 7000 Red Line.

Gene, I have an A body 8 1/4" 2.45 rear end. Those gears will only work in that housing and that housing will only accept 2.45 gears. It came in a 318 4 speed Dart I bought (not original to that car). Man, those tall gears made the clutch stink, even in reverse! I robbed an axle out of it to replace a bent one in a 4.11 posi 8 1/4.
