I'm going to try this again. I just inherited a 1948 Chevy flatbed. It came with a running 216 I6 with a 4 speed manual. I want to swap a V8 into but I don't want fuel injection. I suck royally with electrical. What years of the 350 were carb'd? And what else do I need to replace to support like 500hp? Thanks and sorry for the confusing post from last night. Cheers.
He said anybody out a beefy 350. If he means what I think he means, he wants to use a Chev 350 V8 with carburetor in place of the stock 216 six in a 48 Chev truck. A manual trans V8 bellhousing will mate up to the stock 3 speed if it is the right model of 3 speed. This is a fairly easy swap as such things go. There is more room under the hood of a truck than a car.
There are many suppliers for engine/trans cross members for this swap, or it would not be that hard to make your own. The steering box is in the way for any kind of center dump exhaust on that side, offset the engine an inch or so helps a lot. The steering box can also be shimmed out a little for clearance. The rear axle will have to be changed to an open rear end if you have a 1/2 ton. 48 would have huck brakes, you will want to upgrade for a v-8 swap. Check the ad forum on this site, Cubby put together a stickey which will give you more info than you can remember. Well worth the time to go through.
I have never outed a 350, beefy or otherwise. a small block in an AD truck is an easy swap. V-8 car bell with side mounts and front mounts from a pre '58 v8. I would use a v8 tranny and the rear out of a Camaro. The hardest part of the swap is clearing the steering. Many ways to do that the easiest is to either buy a set of engine swap headers or build a set to fit.
I was very tired when I posted this last night. And now I feel stupid. Sorry folks. Sent from my LG-H901 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
