I wouldn't consider myself an expert, but I am definitely OBSESSED. :D

I have 2 C-119 doors that I'm going to paint something on, and I just picked up 2 C-47 cowling panels that I'm going to desecrate as well. :D

Here's some nose art I painted on the CAF's B-24 with the help of my Dad, and my friends Olemuleskinner and Mikey.

    More B-24 Ol' 927 pics

This guy doesn't like me because I like introducing his tribute page to his father to people who would be interested and appreciate him... go figure. But there are some killer nose art images there. http://www.halun.com/ww2pics.htm

Looks like I've lost my stash of vintage nose art during my recent move.

Here's the nose art I created for my WWII aircraft inspired project called "Moonglow", thus my H.A.M.B. name.

The featured dame is my bride of 18 years. Yeah I know........what's she doing with me? I've been wondering the same thing for 18 plus years!

My dad's Hellcat was know as the "Mad Wabbit". he had a friend at Warner Bros. paint a cartoon cel (which he still has) of Bugs Bunny carrying a 50 cal machine gun and rockets. Then he has a shipboard artist paint it on his plane. I'll have to see if I can find a photo.

Great thread.... the artwork on those old war-birds was somethin' else! I originally saw the book, "Nose Art" some years back...knew I had to have it but eventually got sidelined and forgot about it. Thnaks for reminding me, and bringing this thread to the forefront...

That would be cool to see. Navy nose art on Hellcats is fairly rare.

Just a suggestion... but wouldn't this be a great focus subject for the Friday Art Gallery? Bringing the old "artform" into today's era with the great artists we have kickin' around here?

Always remembered the picture as a kid .The second picture is of the plane sitting in a s**** yard in Kingman Arizona .The picture was in Air Cl***ics June 1989.

Pictures may not be good quality

"Duchess" was a B-17G that flew with the 94th Bomb Group, 331st Bomb Squadron during WWII. My Great Uncle served on her as the ball turret gunner. She was shot down by FW-190's on October 7, 1944 while on a mission to Bohlen, Germany. Thankfully he survived the crash (the pilots were able to crash land it in a field) and 7 months in a POW camp.

Holy ****. Are you saying your uncle was the nose gunner in Dragon and it's Tail? Any more pics???

I have the model of that one right here beside me. And it was a crime when the Collings Foundation painted over Dragon and it's Tail for Witchcraft. :(

Scanned these from a old photo album my mother gave me from my dad. Don't know the name of his plane, but these pics are from late 1944, early 1945 in the South Pacific. My dad was a ball turret gunner. Forgot how many missions he flew on his tour, but all over water, and never knew how to swim.-MIKE
