Going to Viva Las Vegas on Friday. Should Do a once over on the car. 1955 Plymouth Belvedere, with the 241 Poly V8 and dual point distributor.Changed oil and filter and checked other fluids. Checked the dwell and it was way out at 45 20250313_120712.jpg ° and it should be about 31 to 35. Looked at the points and the blocks were gone and the contacts were wasted. After getting 2 wrong boxes, I finally got a correct set of the points and set them And got a combined dwell of 32°. Checked the timing and it was at 0! Spec for the book calls for 4°. So I usually double that so I put it at 10. So much happier running car. I know that I checked the dwell and the points, And the timing a year ago! Been driving it almost daily.Guess I need to keep up on this thing haha. here's some part numbers, so nobody has to go through trouble. If they need some for their mopar, dual 17454483393278630001812792680376.jpg 20250423_153937.jpg 20250423_154029.jpg point distributor.

We have some tune up kits for those duel points distributors.

Not sure if you encountered this or not when using/buying Standard Blue Streak points, but the newer parts are not nearly as nice quality-wise as the older parts. Probably not a surprise to anyone who deals with vintage vehicles/parts, but might be worth seeking out vintage or NOS parts with copper tension springs, etc., as I have found they are often the same price or even cheaper than modern/currently available equivalents.

Good to see you driving and enjoying the '55. :)

I ordered another pair of points to have on hand. I'll private message you about the kit.

I have found that just about everything ignition related now comes from China and the lowest bidder. Just the World we live in currently. As a GM guy, I buy every N.O.S. AC Delco set of points, condenser or unipoint set I see at swap meets. I seldom pay more than a dollar each, and often much less. Apparently, nobody wants them anymore.

Great it's back up and runnin' right. I'd say those old ones gave everything that they had!
Judging from the contacts, I'd keep the condenser. As said, current stuff isn't as well made.

Remember that back then it was oil changes every 6 months/6k miles with a complete lube (something skipped on new stuff) and a full tuneup every year.

Have fun in Vegas and take pics!

...keeping up on maintenance and pre trip check to the SK 500. I found both rear axle hub nuts on the Vicky, way looser than the 125 ftlbs that they should be tightened to ...
Smooth sailing to Vegas for you....
