Any motor combination you put together must be aimed at providing the best hp and torque in the rpm range in which the motor is operated. A single plane intake such as the Victor Jr. is best used on a motor that sees operation over 6000 rpm's, for instance 5500 to 8500 rpm's on a circle track motor. Your motor doesn't qualify.

While it is possible to add pieces and parts to the 390 to improve the power, the best solution in my way of thinking about it would be to do an engine swap with a later 472 or 500 Cadillac motor. Even bone stock, one of these behemoths will produce more power than you could wring from the 390 with more money than you want to spend.

Basically, you're starting at the wrong end of the car. A numerically higher ring and pinion in the rear or a differential swap to a rearend with a numerically higher set of gears would be the smartest move. With different gears, the car would be quicker and you'd still have good street manners in the motor.

edlebrock 750 carb (holleys are a bitch to tune), dual exhaust, and new plugs, wires, rotor, if ya got ac pull it outta there, and if ya want, get rid of the fan and put an electric fan in.

  7. Try a surplus store for an old booster rocket and strap it on, that should do it.
