http://www.autoaircolors.com/ Sounds pretty neat according to their website. What interests me is the fact that its not as deadly as some of the new paints what with all the isocyanates and so forth. However it says you have to clear coat it. Does all urethane clear coats have isocyanates? There is also a write up in the new issue of custom rodder if anyone is interested. I'd like to hear from some of the bodymen on the board to get your opinions or if you have used it. Water based and weather scares me, I guess if you don't clear coat it it will wash off in the rain! Maybe not
I painted a car with Dutch Boy Latex once. Had to use lots of coats, because the water in the paint made the steel rust, and it showed throught the white paint until I got enough coats on. It held up suprisingly well, adn I used a roller, so I got a nice even texture
When I was a lackey in a body shop 20 years ago they were using water based primer (or was it sealers). No idea what brand or how it held up though. Just saying that the technology isn't new. alchemy
some are not not actually water based its water born paint but i think the one you are talking about is water based.....and you should still use a respirator to spray it. it has resins to make it dry hard in it that are harmful. even house paint has em and you should be wearing a resirator when spraying that.....in answer to if it will wash off the answer is no . the clear is to protect it from fading chipping etc. ....all uethane clears have isocyanates. they are in the hardners.......i have used water born and water based paints with killer results when i worked for disney . and some of that stuff is outside 24 hrs 365 with no failures.....BUT it was cleared with a urethane clear ....lots of european cars are paint like this .....alot of painters dont like the idea but i think its a step in the right direction .as far as safety for the guy who is painting everyday ..........i wish i could give a simple expanation of the difference between water born and water based ....but my brain is fried today...too many isocyanates......haha....also just a note....respirators do not filter out isocyanates you need a fresh air system .....for the weekend guy this isnt such a big deal but guys who do it everyday need to be carefull ........carry on..........
