I'm having a problem with putting the flathead back in my F-1. The engine is the original R code truck block but it was ran in my 50 Coupe. The problem I have now is since the engine was in the car, it has the narrow pulleys. All the F-1 water pumps use the wide pulleys. The engine is set up for a car so the Generator, crank, fan and water pumps all use the narrow belt.

The simple solution would be an early or F-1 water pump with the mounting ears and narrow pulley. Apparently there is no such animal. The local shop told me it is nearly imposible to simply change out pulleys without breaking them.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

You could have the pumps rebuilt to high pressure and have the pump pulleys changed out then. You could also change the crank pulley and generator pulley to the wide style. A tractor parts supply will have a wide pulley for your generator.

Don't the late Merc pumps have ears & narrow pullies? IIRC, the mounting ears are higher up on the pump body, but they're there...

Try 50-51 Merc pumps for ears and narrow belt. May need a spacer on the mount to get the correct height.

    Eureka!!!
The Mercury pump and some shims are the solution.
