I’m looking for some old school “water pump sealer “ or an alternative for sealing a weep hole leak without actually removing the pump. The pump has a ceramic seal and is a big job. I was told there’s an alternative method of using polishing or rubbing compound and then flushing the coolant? Any advice is appreciated.

I just replace the seal, not a big deal. You need to make a puller to remove the pump impeller.

The car is pretty far off topic for this place...and if you don't understand why he's asking, google the thing, it's a very strange, gear driven pump that sits inside the engine.

but still, I'd be interested in reading about the in situ seal lapping process from someone who's done it. Even though it's probably not going to fix the other problems with the OPs pump.

It is somewhat like a compressor seal in a GM A/C compressor. I have done more than my fare share of them.

If anyone has a bottle of this “water pump sealer” in their garage, I’m willing to buy it.

All that I have replaced the spring in the seal have broken from rust.

Like Squirrel said the car in question is OT but I hope this thread doesn't get deleted or locked. Most of us don't just have HAMB friendly cars and run into problems that other members may have a fix for. The power of the HAMB can come through regardless of the vehicle. This isn't to say we should have a run on posts about Mustangs or VW's but a post about an OT car that has implications for HAMB vehicles should be allowed. Of course that is JMO and it's Ryan's site and his rules.

I’m new to this site and wasn’t sure how to or if I could ask here. I very well respected garage in my local area told me about this site and to ask the question here because there’s so many subject matter experts on here. I’m really looking for this sealer or this old trick the guy told me about. Thank you!

Now I believe in an old school way,,,,,and most of the remedies and tricks to make an old car work,,,,, actually still work on most of this New Fangled stuff being sold today .
Short of computer related problems that is,,,,not many of those 70-80 years ago .
The op must have edited the details for safety sake,,,,,,I hope someone can help though .
