i know the difference between a short water pump and a long water pump that fit a small block chevy but, my local auto parts dealer dosent seem to have any knowledge of what the shortest shaft length might be for the short pump. if i were to have an idea what year of application that would be that might give me the most clearance, i could have one ordered. any ideas !!!!

They are the same. There are sometimes differences when you get them but that's because they weren't made right and can cause issues with belt alignment.

    :)

I like to use one from a 1975 Chevrolet Monza V8.
It is short ... like the earlier models and most have a dual
bolt pattern on the fan HUB.

Some companies even offer ALUMINUM models :D

My local Chevrolet dealer even had new pulleys ( top and bottom ) available
the last time I used a Monza water pump on a friends ride ...
