Water , One of the old guys came by the shop the other day ,I was trying to remove stuck brake drums from a early chevrolet car .He told me to wet them down with a water hose and let them soak over night . I went back the next day and the drums came with only a small amount of work . Has anybody ever tried this?????
It softens the rust. I heard about it as a trick to unstick pistons that are rusted solid into a engineblock. So I tried it on a set of finned drums that would not move. Dunked them in a bucket of water ( with the spindle and everything ), and it all came apart after a couple of days of soaking. No hammer damage or anything like that...
Interesting. I've never heard of this. Probably those old timers i've hung around with for years not wanting to share "everything". Frank
I rather not have it, but when it rains occasionally, my truck acts like it just came off the ***embly line. Gone are the moans and groans and it flexes like back in the days.
I had some klien strippers that required two hands to open, and accidentally left them in the rain one night, when I found them the next morning I picked them up by one handle, and WALLA!! they opened right up! A few days before I soaked em overnight in ATF and they were still tight.
i wish this had come up earlier i have a truck at work right now that im soaking in pbblaster to get the drums off im gonna have to try this next time
I never in a million years would have guessed that, and now I know. This is why I like to read the HAMB. The more I read, the more I learn.
Water, nature's best cleanser. It's, without soap, more healthy for the skin too. But, what to do about the B.O.!
I learned something today as well. I'll give it a try.. "why is there an old car in the swimming pool?" "just trying to loosen up a few rusty screws" I can see it already.
Your kidding me, i have had a diff turned on its end soaking in kero for weeks, no go, now i hate it more hahahahaahahaa.
