hey guys.Just wondering if I put some soluable oil in my radiator will it help keep the seals soft in my waterpump & help prevent it from leaking especially after long periods of not driving it.Any advice would be much appreciated,,cheers ,,deadbeat
could do, some people recommend it. My recommendation would be to drive your old car more often!! some radiator flush/system treatment products claims to have a 'seal softener/expander' ingredient..have a look on the tins in your parts store.
There is a product from "gunk" that is a "water pump lube and anti rust" additive. Justs costs maybe a buck and some change at the farm stores. Works great at keeping shit from getting rusty in there when you run pure water instead of antifreeze. http://www.gunk.com/CAT_C1012.asp
Water pump lube and water until I moved here. About ten years of that on the 32. Geez, the garage gets down to 26* F sometimes - 16* outside. Now, Anti-freeze and water 50-50. On the 2nd pump, the original was a rebuilt that didn't last long, the 2nd was purchased new and has been on the engine about ten years. Driving them a couple times a week helps a lot.
