Call your mortgage Company and explain your situation and
ask for a deferal. Play it safe and ask for 6 months in case
their are complications. What will happen if they agree (If
you are in good standing with your mortgage Co.) is they will
give you a 6 month reprieve and tack it on to the end of your
mortgage. They don't mind this to much cause they get 6 more
months of interest out of you. Call them immediately. banks
aren't always the enemy. Right now they appreciate the honesty
and they don't want to chase you down for money any more
    than you wanna be chased.

Sorry about your bad luck, keep your chin up.

If your staus now is considered to be "unemployed"...and it may be...then you'll be eligible for more help from the DHS. Your hospital bills may be mostly covered if it's a necessary procedure. All the best to you.

I guess kind of late saying this, but I'm guessing you did not have under insured (or no insurance) motorist protection insurance? I assume they would have it there where you live. I always get it on my cars, and my motorcycle when I had one. I got 3 million coverage, meaning I am covered up to that if the person that hits me is under insured. It costs something like $50 a year on each car. I would not drive without it!
Here in Canada 100% of our basic medical bills are covered under our national health plan. Maybe I should not metion that...I don't want to get political and get the thread deleted.
Look to every resourse you can to help you get thru this difficult time.
Best of luck, hope you heal soon!

  6. It couldn't be more screwed up.
They may give you what's called a forbearance. Maybe they won't but you're going to need to ask for one.

Is your insurance company denying your claim?
Uninsured and under-insured coverage, I believe is a requirement in Illinois.
Was a Police report made at the time of the accident?
