Is there a way to search users by state? What about listings in the classifieds? I think, waaaaaay back, there used to be a thread on locations. I'd just like to know vicinity so when I travel I can maybe meet up with a few or look for parts when I go to an area.
Here’s is one way. In this case I’ve added Ohio. Just put what state your interested into the google search bar. ohio site: jalopyjournal.com/forum/forums/parts-for-sale.47/ Example. https://www.google.com/search?clien...202.202.2-1......0....1j2.......0.yD4IGNtvxCA
This is the car for sale search by state. Ohio site:jalopyjournal.com/forum/forums/cars-for-sale.7/ Example. https://www.google.com/search?clien.....0.66.66.1......0....2j1.......0.sBRe2pcWL3g
Easy..... Hit the magnify glass in any classified section - cars, parts, wanted etc.. That will bring up the drop down menu to fill in. The last box listed is by state. Fill in the state you are looking for. _______________________________________________________________ This one is for member search. Hit it - drop down menu - has location box. Type in the state - will list every member by state (if) they filled their BIO with what state they are in. Easy....
Guys can put anything they want so no telling where really anyone is. Ryan designed it....That's the way it is.
Thats fairly obvious. My question is an inquiry into why it was done that way. What is the rationale for that ?
It's easy to force people to put something in that field, but impossible to force accuracy of the field... So, if people can fill the field with anything at all it doesn't make sense to make that field required. There's also a privacy concern with some folks and I want people to feel as comfortable as possible to register. With the facebooks, instagrams, etc... stealing, selling, and using people's private information in such nefarious ways, I think it's important to be seen and to follow the rules of common decency in that aspect.
Ah, I was trying to do it from the main page and didn't notice the other options when on a specific page, for example, the classifieds. A quick try for "Ohio" only yielded 37 and "Kentucky" only 1. So, maybe users aren't entering the state. Ok, I was just seeing if I could narrow it some so, say, my wife and daughter are a cheer competition and I could possibly slip away for a few hours to talk rods or buy something. Thanks!
