So since HAMBers come from all walks of life I have a question for who ever might know......I have a satellite dish on my boat it needs to move between 3-6 degrees to the left but I have a mast in the way.......my question is does anyone know if I can cut the dish a little without harming reception........thanx for any help......
turn the boat, not the dish... really, I wouldnt cut it. Its like a big lense for radio waves, NOT ok to lop off part of your eye or your camera lense....
I concur. When you cut a parabolic dish it is no longer parabolic. The dish is designed as a collector that reflects signals back to the LNB on the feedhorn. Remove part of the reflector and you remove part of the signal. In the case of a mini dish antenna integrity is even more important as signals are marginal in many areas, the dish isn't even a true parabola and the way most are constructed removal of any portion of the outside edge will cause distortion of the focal point and therefore total loss of signal.
when I tried to put air in my tire the valve stem was at the top and very hard to get to, can I cut some of the sheet metal out of the way so as to make it easier to get to? Paul
" son, how about a little fishing"? "gee dad, that sounds great... but, I have homework" "don't worry son, you can do it on the boat" Do not cut that ****.... Why not re-mount it at the base so you can get the right angle???? Or put a wedge shaped block of wood under the base plate to tilt the dish arount the pole??? HC

Paul [/ QUOTE ] That's alot of trouble to go through... All you'd have to do is put the flat part of the tire on the top. JOE
Thanx guys I figured as much.....but had to ask someone smarter than I is......my dad had a guy weld a mount but didn't check with me so it doesn't spin all the way around...doh....well onto other options thanx again...sheet metal I love it....
