Customs Wayne Carini gets a Mercury

Wayne has always been a hot rodder and has a few 32's including a roadster and a Moal built coupe.
Here is a clip where Wayne gets a Mercury he has been lusting over for a long time. He always wanted to buy the car from his friend and it wasn't until he passed away that the family honored his wish and sold the car to Wayne.Very original car but also a nice Merc.

I dunno. I think I would have been happier to have seen it go to someone a little less professional and "auction savvy".

I think Wayne is a genuine guy and that is why his show was so successful. No bullshit stuff with all the drama on so many other shows.

 

He seemed drama-free, but IMHO his vision was always bottom line; buy low, sell high. You could see the figures running like a ticker tape across his face. He always liked the cars, but they were just a pleasant way to grind the cash out.

Mark I hadn't noticed the mirrors but they are ugly. Some nice chrome round ones would look nice.

That really is a beautiful Merc. including the mirrors! Met Carini at a car show several years ago and really enjoyed talking with him and he really does enjoy his cars BUT he was in the business of buying and selling so certainly understand his "buy low sell high" philosophy.

 

Is it just me or is his grandson a bigger than average kid? The car looks like it's 8/10's scale. Probably looks that way because it's kind of a wide angle shot and was taken from a low angle. Or it is just me . .

 

Great looking Merc. My one and only meeting of Carini left me feeling like he's arrogant, self important, and not like the typical car guy. Not impressed.

 

Dick, the previous owner of the 1951 Mercury, worked at some of the better body shops in the Hartford, Connecticut area in his younger days.

Sounds like every car dealer I've ever met over the past 45 years, so no real surprise there.

 

I just think it’s a cool car other than the mirrors. I know nothing about the new owner except what you guys have said.

 

Is Wayne a member?

 

Maybe he is rich but from hard work going back decades when he worked with his father and learnt a lot restoring cars with him and being savvy in buying and selling. Sounds like some jealously here.
PS he also has some Hudsons and at one stage owned an Italia. Not sure if he still owns that.

 

I saw him with a Rodder's Journal T shirt once ... he'd fit here & have a pretty good time

 

Have you ever heard of Roger Barr? You defend him because he owns Hudsons?

 

I'd forgotten about that, That makes it a solid fail.
