Recently Lloyd posted that he had finally got his dream car, a 1960 El Camino and I thought it is cool that he has finally achieved his dream and got a project.

That got me to thinking of just how many of us have got that dream car but it;s still a project or are you driving it and enjoying the vision.

When I was 12 years old I bought a 1932 Ford 5 window coupe, it was a old car and I knew I wanted it, long story short my dad did not approve and the next door neighbor to possession of the car again.

Years went by and a long line of cars came and went but in the back of my mind I still wanted a 1932 Ford, 33 years ago I bought my totally original '32 sedan and built my dream.

I've never owned any car that long and it's still my dream car.

    How about you? HRP

  2. Great thread Danny! My dream car would be a 1963 Chevrolet two door Biscayne with a 409 four speed. At this point in my life, I would be happy with any 1960-1964 full size Chevy. Including four doors and six cylinders.

Saw this pic when I was 10. Always thought it was a 36 Ford. Nope, it`s a friggin Duesenberg. And that`s Clark Gable. Cars valued at 7 million. So a couple years ago I bought this(Plymouth). Now parts gathering. If your gonna dream, dream BIG. I`m 51 now. Scan0654.jpg Scan0607.jpg

  4. It's funny how your outlook can change over the years. There's cars I like the looks of and cars I like driving/owning and they're not all the same. A lot of the cars that I favored when I was younger that once I could entertain acquiring them I found I didn't really like driving/owning them for various reasons.

But at the end of the day it's what makes you happy is all that's important...

I had an eye-opening life event and upon reflection, I realized I wasn't going after much, much less dreams about my cars. But, when I did think about what I truly wanted, bringing the dream/vision of my coupe to reality was right at the top. So, I started selling off everything else (still have a bit to go) and got the car dream in motion.

  6. I don't have a dream car, I want to touch as many as I can before my number is called. It's really about the history to me...that's why I love everything old.

My dream is to just finish the stuff I’ve started over the last 10 years, who knows, maybe I’ll finish them all at the same time;)

I finally conceded to the fact after retirement I’m better off with the toys I have. But we always need a dream.

    Heres a combined version.

I wanted a 33 Ford Vicky , 1981 I got this 33 out of a ravine , by 1985 I got it almost ready to assemble as a resto Fordor , Divorce happened , I got my kids , she got everthing else , so as kids were growing up ,I started dreaming about the ultimate Fordor , 1999 kids moved out and I cut up my 33 . 2004 I finished the project. It was a long journey , but glad I did it .

I always wanted a Corvette, have had two C4's, that itch has been scratched. Always wanted a 39-40 Ford, settled on a 47 Lincoln instead when I realized a 39-40 was above my pay grade. Would still like to have an open roadster, 27-31 vintage, even a fiberglass one, and still might even though they are impracticable for many reasons.

  16. Everyone knows that I've found mine. Sorry for so many questions and pictures.... here's another one!

Hahaha...... My son is 6 years old. My dreams of owning this abomination began when I was just six years older than him. Crazy. PXL_20201007_145730729.jpeg

  17. I have and have had some neat cars but since I was 5-6 years old i've wanted a 63-7 Corvette coupe since my uncle gave my a ride in his convertible 65. Just recently I had an opportunity to buy one! I loaded up an "inspection kit" flashlight, borescope etc. It was above my price range and I knew it was no where perfect but was 5 mins from the house. Within 45 seconds I knew it was junk. The "bird cage" was rusted out BAD! Oh well. I'm not really in the financial range for one anyway.

Danny, I confess that my pants legs get shorter when I think about a 57-58 Desoto 2 door fin car.

No "Dream Cars" here. I own some nice ones but I'm always thinking about the next build......even though I'm in the middle of a good one. Building them is what gets me going. I enjoy driving them some but not as much as building them.

I've wanted a '40 Ford since the first time I saw one. I finally got one about two years ago. It's really in great shape but is still a project. I'm still pretty young compared to most hambers so I still have plenty of time to work on it and get it like I want it so i'm taking it slow and trying to do things right the first time. Still have a high schooler in the house to get through college before I go too crazy with it.

In the meantime I have a '53 Ford that is drivable and a lot of fun to drive around and tinker with.

My dream car is whatever I’m driving right now.
I try always to be content with what I have.

But, I do have my dream car, it’s ot but a V8 stick drop top so still cool.
In 1991 my dad bought one and it had been his dream car for 10 years, I was 9 and instantly fell in love with it. When I turned 16 I was forbidden to drive dads baby, so what did I do? I bought my own.
While dads was a survivor low mile original paint car, mine had no floor and didn’t run, but that didn’t stop me. Over time it got bodyworked, painted, engine swapped and generally restored.
I probably drive and enjoy mine more than my dad does his, but we’ve both got our dream cars.

As a teenager I used to drive past this little cabin on the way out of town. He had an orange Fleetline with long white scallops sitting in his driveway. It was the coolest car I'd ever seen and I tried several times to talk him into selling it but he just laughed every time I stopped by. That car has stuck in my mind ever since- 42 years so far.
A couple of years ago, I finally lucked into a 1950 Fleetline 2 door project. Pretty rough, lots of work to do but it is my dream car.
I'm in the early stages of building it from the ground up; the frame went out for blasting and powder-coating Thursday. I'm hoping that I will have a rolling chassis by Christmas.

I'm a car ho! There I said it! One minute it's a 1931 Ford roadster, then a 32 roadster, then a nice coupe catches my eye, then a nice 55/56/57 2 door hardtop or ragtop, Ford or Chevy. Then something with a nasty stance and big slicks hanging out the back with a blower sticking out of the hood. Then it's some mid 60's GTO, Chevelle, or 442. Then I see a Cobra or a Ferrari! Hell they don't print enough money for me to get the cars I dream about and lust after! I walk around with a perpetual car boner all day! :D I do like the process of building AND driving them when done though.

  25. At this stage in my life, having owned all my dream cars (thankfully wasn't a big dreamer) and quite a few nightmares in between, I'll be happy to just clear my power lines, and do a short hop in this:
    ee1frt.jpeg

(This one isn't mine). Mine is gonna be red scalloped and white if I can get it finished before I shuffle off this mortal coil....

  26. I don't have a dream story but I have a lust story. :) Having gone to the drag strip in the 60's and seeing short dragsters run was fun but not intoxicating. At that time in my life a fast door slammer was all that was possible. In 1976, a friend and I went to Amarillo dragway for the IHRA Springnationals. When they pushed a pair of top fuel cars down the old fire up road to get our attention, I was stricken. After that day, my goal was to have a dragster. In less than a month, a gas dragster was in my possession. That wasn't good enough. 2 years later I had a 232" top fuel car. I had a real love affair with that car. Now, many years later, I'm looking at doing one more and maybe my last project. The largest obstacle is deciding what it will be. Like many of you, I have owned a lot of vehicles in my life. What one will be the one that I die with? I've spent hours thinking and I'm not there yet. LOL.
