  2. 49-51 merc for me.
I have a 50 and a couple rough parts cars. Been saving up pieces for 25 years. Never started on it.
I get distracted building other junk.
A short bus was something I always wanted and have that one handled. Currently building an OT mini truck.
Started a step van. Trading for some COE stuff.
    Maybe one day

George Button stopped my my Hershey spot one year to talk old race cars and told me he bought two of the movie cars. At the time we though he over paid, two for $35,000.

A friend had a 64 comet ( hippo 289 4 speed) in high school always wanted one. Stock, afx or gasser. Now I think a ranchero with a comet front end would be cool.

It seems over the years there have been a whole bunch of "dream cars". And, I've had them. Then comes the next one. They always do. So, I sell the last one to get the next one. Then the worst thing to ever happen to me did. I lost my best friend, my dad. Now, I have his "dream car". It'll never go anywhere as long as I'm alive. It's the one thing I have that keeps him close....

I've been fortunate in that I've built and owned a lot of hot rods, and have owned just about every one of my "dream cars"...except maybe 2.
I've never got my hands on a '35/'36 3 window or a '33/'34 Sedan Delivery. I recently got my '36 Cabriolet, which in my mind, is as good, or better than a 3 Window.
So that just leaves just the '33/'34 Sedan Delivery...not that I haven't tried. Back in the 90s I did started cutting up a '34 Fordor to build a phantom Sedan Deliv. Unfortunately, about that time, a good buddy crashed his '34 5 Window and needed a frame cowl & doors...so, nice guy that I am...( I did finish the '26 Roadster though):) 27-fl.JPG

My dream scenario is to get my COE finished, along with my Simca (powered by a 215 Buick V-8 and 5 speed) loaded in the box, and hitched to a vacation trailer. That would enable me to travel the U.S. in style, along with taking in certain events. It would be great to park the truck and trailer at a KOA, or something similar, and take day trips in the Simca. The Simca will have a full roll cage and road race suspension. The truck has air, cruise, and rear air bags to handle the load. Who knows, maybe I would run into some HAMB members along the way. 11. Love both! I read that Jay Storers old Simca was being brought back out to Bonneville to race again. Thats the last I heard

Every hot rod I have owned began as my dream car. Some made it and some did not. So as they say "if you are going to dream, dream big. My Big Dream Car would be a 1966 275 GTB long nose alloy Ferrari. Yes in Red.;) Don't forget the dry red wine. Hey I'm Italian:rolleyes:

I'm building my "sort of" dream car, the '34 in my avatar. I say "sort of" because it is a glass car and my dream car would be steel. I have a '57 New Yorker dual quad 392 that's going in it. My dream car would have a 6-71 sitting on it and that may happen. I'd like to channel the body as well but not sure if I will. Never done that to a glass car but I guess it can be done.

My second dream car would be a C2 Corvette. I had this '64 but sold it a few years ago. I hope to have another in the next year or so. I do have a C5 now and it is a wonderful car but just not the same as an older one.

Over my long lifetime I have had several dream cars. Or so I thought. I have been fortunate in that vehicles that I really wanted, I always seemed to manage to acquire. It was a lot easier back in the 60s and 70s, even in the 80s before the prices of desirable cars went sky high.
I have learned a lesson though. After I got some of my so-called dream cars I found out they weren't as great as I thought and I ended up selling them. The lesson I learned is that I don't actually have to "own" the perfect car to enjoy it. I can enjoy looking at someone else's car...its a lot cheaper.
The only elusive one that still evades me is a 32 Ford 3 window coupe. To me that car is perfect. I have its little brother, a 5 window and love it but the 3 window just looks better. Some day maybe, but I doubt it since they are pure gold in value and I am just an old retired mailman...

I dreamed of having a hot rod starting in Jr high when I discovered Hot Rod and Rod & Custom magazines. No money, no tools, no talent. But by the mid '70's I was able to build this:

I built a mild 350 for it and a four-speed. Not a "real" hot rod but pretty cool and I had a lot of fun with it.
Ultimately it got destroyed when the other guy turned in front of me too close to miss.
Spent the next 30 years chasing race cars around the country with a bunch of Nikon gear hanging off my body.
Then over 2005/2006 I finally got to build my hot rod.

Still have it, still driving it.
Now, this is not to say that I don't still have dream cars, it's just that, at this point in my life, there's little chance of having the money to acquire any of them. Us being retired and all. But they still pop up in my dreams that '62Corvette, or the '57 T-bird, and the '67 Fairlane. It's nice to still have dreams. :)

I'll be honest, I don't really have a "dream car". Sure, there is a 57 Chevy custom that I've had built in my head for 15 years, but it's not a recurring obsession, or even one that's slated in the immediate que. I'll get to it when I get to it. But I don't have a car where once I obtain it, I've reached the zenith. I feel like that actually sounds disappointing, where I've reached the top, all I can do is go down from there and nothing else would feel as special. There are plenty of cars I'd love to own. Chances are I'll never own half of them.

My "dreams" involve successes in my work and personal life, or even more in honing my skills on automotive projects. Actually, I could imagine a dream house more than I could imagine a dream car.

I'll also echo the sentiments of some on here in terms of being disappointed when you finally drive your dream car. When I was in college, I always wanted a Shelby GT500 as a daily driver. Years later, my father-in-law bought one. Driving it stock was actually kind of bland, and when he put a Whipple on it and dyno'ed 721 hp to the wheels, the car was a complete terror and was unenjoyable to drive. Same could go for the Ferrari 458 I was kicking around a couple weeks ago. Uncomfortable, rides like crap, weird transmission... it just wasn't that much fun and IMHO could never justify the price tag.

    Hello,

During the holiday season, we have been given the instruction since our toddler days to dream about what was on our gift list. One major gift was all that was going to be given to the “good” boys and girls of the world. There wasn’t a better kid than a little rascal living in a Craftsman House on the Westside of Long Beach. Despite what others, including my mom, said, I was a good kid. So, my wishes should come true.

I wanted a bicycle, and a BB gun. Like most kids in our neighborhood, the empty grass field all the way to the Terminal Island Freeway (still there today) was huge and full of places to hide and play. It was a jungle, desert, forest and beach all rolled into one. The BB gun if placed out in the field, would not harm any houses as the range was too far from where we usually played.

So, back then as a little kid, that was my Christmas dream. Well, I(we) both got BB rifles and a dog for both brothers. The dream was partially complete.

Of course, as we got older, there were other dreams. Another 348 to put back into my Salmon Pink 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery. It originally had a 348 in it before negotiations for the sale lowered the price and put in a stock Flathead. And after high school, the day after Christmas waves in Baja Mexico Surf Trips. We were then too old to go up to the Big Bear Mountain’s hot rod days, after Christmas, like we had for the last three December 26 days in high school. So, our dream of great waves somehow came true and through New Years Day, it was fabulous. Life was good.

This year, dreams probably won’t arrive as the pandemic is throwing everyone for a loop. But, these two modified station wagons would be nice:
    upload_2020-12-23_5-20-40.png
    OR upload_2020-12-23_5-21-1.png
Or, perhaps this gift for an always nice old guy that has a garage space to keep this old hot rod AND staying within the Christmas Holiday color scheme:
    upload_2020-12-23_5-22-53.png
It is close by, to boot.

I have a few cars I would like to own (one or two might be in my grasp one day)
    1. A 49 Chevy Woodie wagon (real wood), any finished woodie may scratch the itch.
    2. 63-67 corvette (really pref a 58 but just do not fit in them well)
    3. 32 5 window coupe (full fendered)
    4. 67 Camaro - white with red interior (want to relive my first car)

Mark, I just checked with your financial advisor and he said if you sold all your cars and property, liquidated all your stock options you could possibly make a good down payment, then your monthly payments would be just under 9 grand a month, do Italians like Roman Noodles and sleeping in their cars? When I was a kid, I walked by the local wheel alignment shop and there was a faded red '40 Ford Deluxe coupe with a for sale $95 sign in the window. I have finally scraped up $95 but can't find the car.

For a long time I wanted a Muscle car, thought the early 60's full size Chevy's were cool, but were out of my budget. A 70 Elco filled the need 14 years ago, and I still own it. 10 years ago, I bought one of my dream cars, a 1960 El Camino. I have had it for a decade and haven't had the time or money to touch it. I've been trying to collect sheet metal parts for it (there is tons of rust) and it will move into the shop within the month. I've always been a fan of fins and I'd love to own a 59 Bel Air or Biscayne. Another dream is a 63 Impala. Pops has had one since before I was born, and I kid that if he doesn't do something with it, that I'm going to steal it and make it my own. HA!
