Only one Wheeler is listed in the current HCCA directory, a 1902 model living in Texas. Possibly the only survivor?

THANKS, Jimmy! That's what this thread is about: tracking down any hard info about survival, or NOT, on a given make.

I sincerely appreciate your taking your TIME and effort to nail that down.

So, as SWI always says: UNTIL proven differently, WHEELER has ONE known surviving specimen, folks.

MrFire, given the '38 timing, I think it's pretty keen that his design predated Chrysler's Thunderbolt and Newport show cars. The one-year DeSoto retractable-headlight model (not repeated for '46) is a keen car, too.

My point, everybody, everywhere watched what everybody else was issuing, as well as their concept cars. THANKS again for posting this cool one-off! I love this thread, and I love the HAMB! It's a great forum for free expression of opinion.

This was posted over in the AACA forum. A super rare 29 Sterns Knight. There is one or maybe two in existence.

Scarce as hen's teeth, MrFire! Clymer said made in Cleveland
and ONLY in 1900 and 1901! My bet would be EXTINCT. But,
who knows? There might be one in a garage or barn --a PHOENIX,
READY TO RISE FROM THE ASHES! There'd surely be NO
mistaking it, if you ran across one, eh?

AJ, that '29 Stearns-Knight is a BEAUTIFUL car! Made from 1899 to 1930, so things had to have been winding down for 1929. GOTTA be rae, as you mentioned!

Interesting that Clymer would say that Phoenix was only made in 1900 and 1901 as my TRUSTY 2010 HCCA Directory lists a 1909 Phoenix 810 Roadster and a 1912 Phoenix Victoria living together at the same home in Santa Ana, California.

    I sent a copy of this picture to a fellow I know restoring a Stearns Knight in northern Minnesota and here is his response;

Thanks for the picture. Neat picture, I have seen it. I think it might be Mary Pickford. Taken in Chinatown perhaps?

There is a cabriolet like that being restored in Montana right now. In fact it's being painted this week in Billings. It's the only 28-29 SK Cab-roadster known to still exist.

I'll see what I can hunt up for some pics of our projects. Thanks for taking the time to drop me a note.

    Pete

Wow! Sounds as though the final '29 and '30 models really are scarce. NICE of the gentleman to respond so quickly, Jim. Those pix would be welcome here, naturally!!! Nyuk, nyuk!

    1928 Diana Cabriolet Coupe
Marketing to women certainly didn't originate with the Dodge LaFemme or Chrysler Comtesse. In the early days of motoring several makers sought to woo the fairer *** with cars touted as easier to start, steer, park, and control. The Diana was such a car. ***embled by the Moon Motor Car Company of St. Louis largely from components purchased from other companies (like the Continental straight-eight engine), the style, name, and advertising were all pitched at women. Hydraulic brakes, self starting, and simplified control of spark, ignition, etc. did make this car easier to control, and of the 7000 built and sold for around $2000, women owners (usually urban flapper types) reportedly outnumbered men 15 to 1. The original chick car?

for his big entrance at the 1961 Academy Awards ceremonies, by Andy
Di Dia. THANKS for the photo go to flickr, taken during the car's ap-

Right on, AJ! :D And, hey, that's the fun of this thread: IF IT STILL EXISTS, we try and get & show a pic. IF IT DOESN'T EXIST, we try and get/show an original pic or artist's rendering. THANKS, everybody for the continued efforts!!! :)

    "DAF

DAF Trucks started out as a small workshop in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in 1928. 'Hub Van Doorne, Machinefabriek en Reparatie-inrichting' – named after its founder, 28-year old Hub Van Doorne – was primarily focused on welding and forging activities. Van Doorne couldn't have started his business had it not been for his former employer Mr. Huenges (owner of Sjef Mandigers brewery in Eindhoven). The latter was very impressed with Hub's technical abilities to repair his Stearns-Knight automobile that he provided him with enough money to start his own engineering shop."

MisterFire, I enjoy your energies, but the subject,
I think, was Stearns-Knight. If I missed the point,
    I apologize in advance. BUT, isn't this a Pierce-Arrow?
You threw a lot of stuff in here, all at once. Break it
down and tell us why it's relevant to this thread.
Sorry, bro. Don't just add links and require us regulars,
or visitors, to go look everything up. Tell us why it's
relevant to the ***le of the thread, please. Thanks.

I believe the photograph to be a 1929 Strearns Knight Model J DeLuxe 8-90 on display at Rhinebeck in 2005.

Another photo from a different source...

    "1929 Stearns-Knight Model J DeLuxe 8-90
    Owner : Harold Miner"
    http://www.nevadarockhounds.com/AWA/Cars/StearnsK/StearnsK.html

    ...................

The other photographs are 1929 Stearns-Knights models.......

The links aren't necessary for identification of the vehicles, but, I post them to allow anyone to access any other information the links may contain.

    ...........................

    DAF,
I recalled reading about the early history of DAF, and a Stearns-Kinight was a feature in the commencement of the operation.

    No Stearns-Knight - no DAF.

I believed the exerpt I posted explained the relevance. I was mistaken.
