    Root, I'm with you-
I think half of the probelms with our society or our kids are NOT the kids fault-It's a lack of PARENTING. I am on my third kid-the two older ones think I am strict as hell and DO NOT tolerate them talking back or being disrespctful. While most of my kid's friends try to call me "Cole" (my first name) I always instruct them and their parents that until they are voting age I'm "Mr Taylor". I require my kids to call all grown ups "Mr" or Mrs", and you'd be surprised how many parents are shocked and tell me how they "just can't get their kids to do that".
It rankles me to no end to see my Sister-in-law get yelled at and hit by her 2-year old son if she doesn't turn the DVD player in the car on fast enough. I would've pulled the DVD player out of the car and taken a hammer to it if it was my kid, then told my kid that we'll see if the TV gets turned on again for the next week or so.
The choices YOU make as a parent affect your child for their entire life....

Ok I am 20, graduated from high school, and am goin to have my ASEP degree in MAY. Been workin at a chevy dealership since my senior year in school... Makin 20 bux an hour right outa high school... Not bad in my book, and I ain't afraid to work.. I have my OWN early 1900s two story house, about 35 old cars trucks and parts cars, a 19ft boat, and a 28ft camper... I WORK!!!!!!!! I don't even have time to do much lol. Nothin has been given to me, I work for what I got and I am paying for what I got... DON"T get me wrong my parents help me greatly, BUT nothing is free. ANYTHING they loan me I pay back.. ANd I think thats how it should be.. thats the way I want my kids... For example, I tore the transmission up in my 96 z71 that sits on 38s the day before yesterday... I am 200 miles from home lol. I pulled the trans yesterday at school, tore it down today and ordered parts... Rebuild kit, Z-PAC clutches, cevlar band, billet servo, new pump, converter, corvette rear planetary with the oil slinger, shift correction package, and a heavy duty reaction sun shell"the beast". I'll have $580 in all the parts. Beats the hell outa buying a SRTA trans from GM. Even with my cost plus 10% its still $1,400 for a stock trans. My parents always taught me that its ALWAYS better to WORK for what you have instead of paying for someone else to work for what you have. Not all kids are bad... Just different... And as for the drive ins.. Sonic gets alot of traffic but its not that cool.. When I was in high school we hung out in wallmart parking lots or in gas station parking lots.. FUN AS HELL!! Doing nothing but hangin out.. I think there is a new country song about hanging in wall mart parking lots. All is not lost....its just different... I have been on the hamb since I was late 12 or early 13 years old.. And this place has shaped my life a little too. Great parents are the key to great kids....

my 2 kids are 12 and 14, we live out of town so they don't do a lot of socializing, I am to my oldest kid some sort ot tyrant because we make him do his homework after school, he's not doing to good in school right now though because its not "cool" to do well but with any luck he'll grow out of that, a couple years ago the day after halloween our youngest grade 4 at the time was telling his friends we wouldn't let him have any halloween candy for breakfast, his teacher overhears this and we get a call a couple hours later from social services that they recieved a report we aren't feeding our kids and they'd be over right after lunch, no sweat we saids come on over, they see we got a fair jag of grub around and head back to there office and we get a letter a few days later saying the matter has been dropped, I don't know what goes on in other peoples homes that that would have happened.

its a different world out there now thats for sure, a fight used to last as long as it took for one guy to give now its keep on him til ones unconcious with his head caved about in

and when a friend of mine comes around I introduce them as Mr. so and so to the kids never by the first name, I am 43 and still sometimes uncomfortable calling my dads friends by their first name:D

I guess I was originally trying to say kids today don't get alot of guidance they require by having both parents working, no real family life like sitting around the dinner table, just reaching in a fast food bag and heading off in different directions, etc.. not to say every place is like that but must be a majority if thats the "norm" of today, so I am not laying it all on kids its just as much our fault as it is theres, I sometimes get ribbed at work by people for not allowing the kids some freedom, well they get as much freedom as they can be reasonably responsible for and not turning them loose at that age to hang out in town god knows where doing who knows what at all hours of the day or night

I'll continue to be a **** and hopefully one day they will see we did it cause we cared about them and not to punish them

maybe one day they will reopen the old drive in or a dog and suds, A&W for me if not for them huh?:D
